Hẻm Phố – Hong Kong Night Street in Đà Nẵng

If you’re a ’90s Vietnamese kid like myself, you are probably no stranger to TVB action and drama series. I remember watching them every night with my family growing up, and as a kid, I was particularly delighted by the scenes of brightly lit Hong Kong streets with their delicious roasted meat stalls, red lanterns, and flashy neon lights.

Now, Đà Nẵng residents will get to enjoy an authentic Hong Kong street experience at their leisure, as Hẻm Phố – Hong Kong Night Street, a major Hong Kong-style café brand with a presence in multiple Vietnamese cities, has just opened its first outlet in the city.

Authentic Hong Kong street experience with neon-lit signs and movie posters

Opened just last week on the 23rd of November on a major street in Đà Nẵng’s center, Hẻm Phố – Hong Kong Night Street boasts a façade that’s a real head-turner – with a gate that resembles the entrance to Hong Kong’s famous Temple Street Night Market, through which you can see the warm red light emitting from within.

The interior also doesn’t disappoint. While the entire café occupies an indoor space, it has a high ceiling, giving it an airy feel that makes you feel as if you were actually out on a Hong Kong street. Rows of low wooden stools arranged along its lengths, as well as lanterns and neon-lit signs hanging from above, serve to complete the ambience.

Along the walls, you’ll spot recreations of Hong Kong street shops, from stalls selling roasted meat and newspaper to clothing and music CD shops, and more. There are also large wall paintings depicting scenes from Stephen Chow’s famous movie Kung Fu Hustle.

At the end of the café, right next to the counter, is a staircase leading up to the second floor. With dozens of TVB movie posters covering the stairs and the walls around, this makes for a good spot for an IG-worthy snap.

But the most sought-after check-in spot has to be the balcony on the second floor, from which you can take a picture with all the neon signs in the background at eye level.

Food and drinks at Hẻm Phố – Hong Kong Night Street

The food and drinks menu at Hẻm Phố is expansive with nearly 60 items to choose from, which range across tea, coffee, beer, soft drinks, snacks, and more – and they come at very reasonable prices.

Despite Hẻm Phố not being a dedicated bubble tea shop, its bubble tea (VND30,000, ~USD1.30) is surprisingly good with a strong flavor and tapioca pearls cooked in brown sugar, giving them a moderate sweetness.

Meanwhile, beer lovers will have no shortage of options with a wide variety of beer brands to choose from, including Budweiser, Heineken, Coronita, Hoegaarden, and more. They come at VND25,000-VND30,000 (~USD1.08-USD1.30) each.

In terms of snacks, you can munch on sunflower seeds (VND15,000, ~USD0.65), chicken jerky (VND30,000, ~USD1.30), pork jerky (VND30,000, ~USD1.30), and more. Of course, don’t pass on the nem chua rán – fermented pork sticks fried with flour to a crisp. It is a popular Vietnamese street snack well-loved by locals.
