Hanoi Hospital Is Now A COVID-19 Cluster, Students In 14 Cities To Stay Home After Exams

Hanoi Hospital is the latest COVID-19 cluster with 35 cases

With COVID-19 cases increasing on a daily basis, medical facilities, healthcare staff, and authorities across Vietnam are kicking into overdrive to contain the outbreaks.

The Hanoi Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Kim Chung Ward has become a new COVID-19 cluster, where 35 community cases have been linked, at the time of writing.

As our frontline staff and authorities continue to try to limit the spread, the virus has unfortunately extended its reach into different cities. Here’s a quick rundown of the updates we have so far on the situation.

Vietnam reports 21 new community cases today

On 5th May 2021, Vietnam recorded 18 COVID-19 community cases, 14 of which are linked to the cluster at Hanoi hospital while the remaining were found in Quang Nam, Dong Nai, and Hai Duong.

This morning, cities such as Hanoi, Thai Binh, Hung Yen, Quang Ngai, and Hung Yen have reported 21 new cases – all of which are visitors to patients at the hospital, VTV and Thanh Nien reports. In response, Hanoi medical authorities are rushing to trace all visitors who checked in at the hospital from 14th April to 4th May.

Even though the final school semester starts a few weeks from now, schools in 14 cities have let their students stay home as the COVID-19 caseloads rise. Among these cities include those who have been hit by community cases, such as Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, Da Nang, Ha Nam, and Yen Bai.

According to VNExpress, authorities in Saigon have called on schools to finish hosting their final semester exams by 9th May. Students will then be allowed to stay home as soon as possible.

Even though Saigon has yet to report any new community cases recently, authorities have expressed concern over the resurgence of local outbreaks.

Stay vigilant as Vietnam’s community cases remain on the rise

For the 1st time in a month, Vietnam has started to record double-digit COVID-19 caseloads again. Our medical authorities are fighting COVID-19 on all fronts, given a jump in the number of infections and the illegal returnees along the border.

Let’s do what we can to protect ourselves and communities, by keeping masks on while in public at all times and avoiding gatherings.
