Saigon’s Ba Son Metro Station Completed Amid COVID-19 Pandemic & It Looks Stunning

Ba Son Station was completed on 29th April

It’s been 9 years since Saigon’s metro line project first kicked off. Due to multiple delays, the metro has yet to start operations. When the latest COVID-19 wave hit, many of us wondered if it would result in prolonged delays for the project.

Nonetheless, every cloud has a silver lining. Despite the travel restrictions amid the escalating COVID-19 pandemic, the Ba Son Station of Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien metro line has been completed.

Here’s a glimpse into Saigon’s most modern public transport facility once the metro line begins operations.

Ba Son Station is an underground metro station located in the area of Ton Duc Thang Street – a 10-minute walk from the vibrant Me Linh Square and Bach Dang Port.

Drawing inspiration from the iconic Saigon River, Ba Son Station is decked out with high undulating ceilings. Not only does this unique design lend the space a sense of airiness, but it also helps to reduce noise.

Awash in shades of white and grey, clean lines, and ample lighting, the future transit facilities boast modern aesthetics for a bright commuting environment.

According to Nhan Dan, the underground train station features 2 basement levels with a total length of 240 meters, width of 35 meters, and depth of 17 meters.

Basement 1 will function as a lobby, equipped with ticketing gantries and an information desk. Train platforms where passengers can board and alight from the trains will be found on basement 2.

Not only does Ba Son Station have a striking design, but it’s also located in a strategic location.

Completed on 29th April 2021, Ba Son Station will serve the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien Line connecting District 1 and District 9.

Ba Son Station has 5 access points, including one near Saigon River, one close to VPBank Tower, one not far from Ba Son Company, while the others are adjacent to Vinhomes Golden River residence.

The station got its name from its surroundings, which was the historic Ba Son Port where the grandest shipbuilding activities in Southeast Asia once took place.

Saigon metro project is progressing slowly, but surely

The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on our lives, economy, and infrastructure projects. With year-long travel restrictions on top of other difficulties, the metro project has encountered numerous troubles.

Against all odds, it’s great to see that the metro project is still up and running. After the removal of barriers on Le Loi Street, the completion of Ba Son Station has offered us a glimpse into the physical transformation of the city.

We can’t wait for what’s in store next.
