The morning of Monday, 6th April 2020 is a major milestone for Vietnam as the country has reported no new COVID-19 cases.

Besides no new COVID-19 cases being reported this morning, yesterday morning was the first time in almost a month that Vietnam had reported no new COVID-19 cases in its morning update.

Only 1 case was found yesterday evening, but the patient – a 20-year-old male who had been studying in the UK – had been under quarantine since his arrival on 21st March.

Prior to that, 7 cases were reported on Saturday, including:

  • 2 foreigners who were customers at the Buddha Bar in Hồ Chí Minh City. Aside from these two, 16 other COVID-19 cases were also associated with this bar.
  • A 71-year-old Vietnamese man who was a patient at the Bạch Mai Hospital in Hanoi, another major COVID-19 hotspot.
  • A 69-year-old Vietnamese woman returning from Paris, France on 18th March.
  • 2 Vietnamese women, one is 17 years old and the other 29. They had been working in Thailand and returned to Vietnam on 18th and 20th March respectively.
  • A 64-year-old Swedish man who has been in Vietnam since December 2019. He had traveled to several tourist attractions in northern Vietnam before being quarantined in Hanoi on 1st April.

With the latest figures, the total number of COVID-19 cases in Vietnam is currently sitting at 241.

In another piece of good news, Vietnam also saw 6 COVID-19 recoveries over the weekend. 5 of these patients were discharged on Saturday, including 4 Vietnamese citizens who were receiving treatment at the Củ Chi Field Hospital in Hồ Chí Minh City and a 41-year-old American man who was treated in the central city of Đà Nẵng.

The latest recovery was announced yesterday by the Quảng Nam Central General Hospital. He is a 66-year-old man from the UK who tested positive on 16th March. This makes him the 91st patient to have made a full recovery in Vietnam.

Of the remaining 150 active cases, 52 have tested negative once, and another 23 have tested negative twice, according to the Ministry of Health.

Promising COVID-19 patient numbers

It seems the national effort from the Vietnamese government and people is starting to bear fruit, as the COVID-19 pandemic in the country is showing signs of slowing down. Let’s keep up the good work by adhering to the nationwide social distancing policy and stay at home.
