Feeling adventurous the other day, my friend and I decided to meet at Holland Village for an impromptu meeting to catch up and grab a quick bite. Walking around the area, we saw the staircase leading up to Mu Parlour and decided to give it a try. Expecting a run-of-the-mill café, we were pleasantly welcomed by the Victorian-styled interior and amazing lighting which are the starters for great insta-worthy pictures.
Having ordered their burgers, eggs benedict, truffle fries and red velvet cake, the first three were average and nothing worth raving about. Although it's cool that they serve charcoal buns - something different from other cafés. But in terms of taste, not that big of a difference from the usual ones. Perhaps a good thing to know is that charcoal-infused products aid digestion and improves skin complexion.
But their Red Velvet Cake is something else - uber moist and spongey, which marks as basis to any good cake. And rather than just sweet, what makes the red velvet at Mu Parlour extraordinary is the rich cocoa undertone it has, making it so much more delectable and decadent.
If you are looking for a place to quietly spend the afternoon or to satisfy that sweet tooth, give Mu Parlour and their sweet treats a try!
Having always seen MU Parlour burgers on my instagram feed, I decided to go there for lunch with two of my friends. It was a little hard to find at first as it's located on the second. floor of a shop house. The interior is Victorian-era themed, and is ideal for taking OOTD or thinking-poses shots because it's so pretty.
We decided to order the burgers, and a mushroom salad. The burgers were quite good, but nothing worth raving about. I did like the fact that you could choose the cheese that came with the burger though, and the charcoal buns were an interesting plus! The mushroom salad should only be ordered by someone who really loves mushrooms, as you'll get seriously sick of it after awhile.
The desserts were quite good though, we had a chocolate tart (I've forgotten the name) and it was not cloyingly sweet. The crust at the bottom didn't crumble into pieces after I cut through it, which I liked.
I think it's a cafe worth going to at least once, but the desserts were better than the mains to me!
I first visited Mu Parlour during a birthday celebration of mine. And ever since then I have had cravings for it almost every month!
They have an all day brunch menu, burgers and desserts. I especially love getting their no. 11 burger, which consists of a beef patty, streaky bacon and avocado topped off with Mu Parlour's special sauce. Their burgers are all sandwiched with charcoal buns. So yes, thick yummy black burgers! Just describing it makes me crave for it even more right now.
The fries that comes with the burger reminds me somewhat of the fries served at Everything With Fries. And yes, that means it is tasty, addictive and plentiful in serving.
A meal (burger and fries) costs about $(13-16), which is very reasonable as the servings are very generous and the food is good after all. Their milkshakes are rather awesome too! They come in a mini jar-looking bottle but don't let that fool you - the richness of the milkshake is enough to fill you. So don't go complaining about its size! However their milkshake is a little costly at $8/"jar".
Located at Holland Village and sitting on the second floor, the ambience at Mu Parlour definitely matches up to the quality of food they serve. The outlet has an artsy theme going on, and its vintage looking furniture gives the place a rather classy look.
Overall, Mu Parlour makes for a great dining experience (:
What is the point of making your cafe look so pretty when it offers sucky service and mediocre food? Just went to MU Parlour today and waited 45 mins for my food to arrive, when there were only 2 other tables. The service staff was also unapologetic about the delay, not a word of apology was uttered for the illogical wait, or I could have also been placated if I had been informed of a delay. No thank you even as we left the cafe.
The burgers are the only thing decent. Do not even bother trying the Eggs Benedict or the waffles set. The bad service and slow speed makes me never want to return. I also definitely feel cheated because I paid service charge for this nonsense. Readers please note.
MU Parlour easily makes a statement with its Victorian-inspired interior. The floor to ceiling window allows natural daylight to enhance its cleverly mismatched furnishings, and also makes for a good spot for people watching.
Other than just desserts and coffee/tea, MU Parlour also mixes things up by offering their signature gourmet burgers (you get to select your choice of cheese). While they aren’t big in size, they’re huge in quality. Their tantalizing desserts will tempt both dessert and non-dessert lovers — I enjoyed the chocolate mousse cake very much. One can easily spend a very relaxing day here.
