When I think of fried chicken, I think of golden brown, crunchy skin - which isn’t what I found in 4 Fingers. But okay, I tried to be open-minded - but eventually still failed to see what was so amazing about 4 Fingers fried chicken.
Upon arrival, I sent a quick distress text to someone who was a self-proclaimed 4 Fingers fanatic: “HELP, what do I get at 4 Fingers?!” Deciding to heed her advice, I got the Soy Garlic Chicken Drumsticks, which wasn’t all that mind-blowing. As I lacklusterly chewed on the drumsticks, I murmured to my friend that KFC was much better, which he agreed with wholeheartedly. Meanwhile, 4 Fingers Fanatic Friend was probably metaphorically being stabbed in the heart. Multiple times. As we considered the prospect of having KFC after this disappointing meal.
Calm down, fans. I don’t have anything against 4 Fingers, I probably just didn’t like the type of chicken that 4 Fingers offers. But if you like your chicken more flavorful than crispy, then this might be a place to consider.
Even after a few years in Singapore, there is still so much hype around 4 Fingers. I am not a fan of fried chicken, but I had to give it a try to see what all the fuss was about.
The first thing that struck me about the chicken was the hard bater on the outside. It was very crispy but I would have prefered something thinner and lighter. Instead of using a different batter for each flavor of chicken, 4 Fingers uses a series of sauces. This is a rather lazy method and can make some pieces of chicken too salty and others flavourless.
Overall, despite the hype, 4 Fingers failed to dethrone Mos Chicken as my favourite fast food fried chicken.
Walked past the ever so popular store today and realized that there was literally no queue, the first 4Fingers Crispy Chicken store in the West. Probably because it was half an hour to three in the afternoon by the time I decided to get my late lunch. Yes, go at odd hours if you are not ready to queue for at least half an hour. Trust me and avoid the lunchtime crowd; especially during peak hours.
Considering that it is another fast food place, 4Fingers Crispy Chicken would be slightly pricier than the other fast food places. Expect to spend at least or around ten dollars for a set meal. From its name, I expected it to be a place selling only dishes with chicken. However, aside from chicken; I was pleasantly surprised that rice is offered on the menu too. What seemed like short grain rice was drizzled with a generous amount of teriyaki sauce and roasted seaweed strips on top. For health junkies, not to worry, they have got you covered with three types of salad for you to choose from.
I must acknowledge that the chicken served was well fried. It was considered well-cooked as with the right control of the temperature of the oil, the latter will not penetrate the food – the meat of the chicken. Their highly raved signature chicken was a bit of a disappointment as I found it to be a tad saltier than expected; it was probably the marinate. I would not generalize and say that it is average tasting for now as I have not been to all four 4Fingers Crispy Chicken stores. The quality and taste at each place might differ a little. Overall, it was not too bad. If you are craving for some chicken and you see no queue, you can head to 4Fingers Crispy Chicken and give it a try!
I'm not sure of the queues at other outlets, but the one at ION is insane. You have to wait a long time to place your order, and an equally long time for your food to be ready. To top it all off, the service staff at the order counter can be downright rude sometimes.
While the chicken is finger-licking good (sorry KFC) with a crispy, semi-sweet skin, and the seaweed fries are not bad either, it is not worth all the trouble you have to go to just to get some chicken, even if they do have a tempting student meal promotion.
4 Fingers is undeniably my favourite place to get a fried chicken fix. Used to only frequent their ION outlet, but their outlet at Airport T3 has got to be my favourite now because of the extremely huge area! ION's outlet is just way too crammed for my liking.
Things to note: horrendously long queues, bad service, and unseasoned fries. However! The fried chicken at 4 Fingers taste so sinfully good with their soy garlic marination I just can't help but ignore every other negative thing and return solely for their yummy chicken.
I tried Bonchon for the first time recently, even though it's been around since forever, and walked away less than satisfied. I know my review will probably be contradictory to many of Bonchon's rave reviews, but it's just an alternative viewpoint to consider!
I am more a savoury person than a sweet person; I don't like dessert that much, don't like any savoury foods which are sweet (corn, sweet & sour pork, carrots) and I guess that's why I don't like Bonchon as well. Tried both the spicy and the soya - both versions didn't do it for me. I also prefer either a regular crispy skin (McWings) or a bbq-ed skin (hawker centre chicken wings) to the kind of glazed crispy skin that you get at Bonchon's.
Would also say that the chicken here is really expensive! Not worth the wait, imo.
Don't come here if you're expecting meaty chicken wings! I've had friends who have been disappointed. But if you love crispy wings, then this is the place you should go.
I love the crispiness and the soy garlic marination! That's definitely a winner for me. It's such a guilty pleasure snacking on these. I like their seaweed fries too, but it's usually not very evenly seasoned.
However, the queue can get pretty ridiculous at times. But I will queue if I'm craving for these anyway.
Despite having been in Singapore for a few years now, the perpetually long queues outside each 4 Fingers Crispy Chicken outlet has never let up. And why not? Their signature Korean fried chicken is crisp, moist, non-greasy, and absolutely tasty.
Although 4 Fingers Crispy Chicken is a fast food chain, they are dedicated to elevating the experience of fast food, through offering quality Korean fried chicken. This is the theme of their decor, a revolution, a secret meeting of minds. Graffiti adorns the walls, while warning signs declare each outlet to be a restricted area. This underground scene even extends to their packaging, which bears labels such as secret or restricted.
Service at 4 Fingers Crispy Chicken is fast food style, order and pay at the cashier, and collect your order when buzzed. Still, the staff at the counters are friendly, and informative. Professionalism, I like! However, there is usually a long queue time of about 20 minutes or more, although once you order, you food is usually ready within 5 minutes.
Food at 4 Fingers Crispy Chicken revolves around their signature Korean fried chicken, along with their 2 speciality sauces, the soy garlic sauce and the hot sauce. There isn't much variation to the menu, mostly consisting of either chicken, burgers / sandwiches, and seafood like squid or prawns.
The Wings & Drummettes have crisp skin, moist, well-cooked meat, and tasty flvaour. The Hot Sauce is quite fiery, and the heat builds gradually throughout the meal. The Soy Garlic Sauce is savoury and fragrant, without being too salty. Excellent!
There are 2 options for seasoned fried (you can't get it plain), Kimchi Fries, or Seaweed And Chili Pepper Fries. The Kimchi Fries are seasoned with kimchi powder, and I feel aren't that tasty or special. But the Seaweed And Chili Pepper Fries are very good, with actual seaweed leaves and red chili pepper flakes.
The Katsu Chicken Sandwich With Kimchi Coleslaw features an excellent bite of the kimchi coleslaw, which is really tasty with the kimchi powder seasoning. The actual bun is similar to a mantou fried bun, crisp and super oily. The chicken meat within is simply fried, without any special sauce coating it, so it has a more natural taste.
I'm never going to eat at 4 Fingers again!
That was what I exclaimed to my partner, after securing a taste of their over-raved chicken, and experiencing their mediocre service.
Firstly, why only open 1 counter when you have 2? The under usage of their counters is quite a common sentiment among frustrated customers. Secondly, their staff are not very educated about their promotions, neither are they helpful. Their poster for a student set meal stated that it was only valid till 31st December, and when I went to the Plaza Sing outlet on 3rd Jan, I asked a staff if it was still valid. He answered with a "I'm not sure sorry." and walked away, leaving me dumbfounded. Anyway, yes, the poster isn't updated. The Student Set Meal promotion IS still valid.
Food-wise, the chicken is just average. I personally felt that even with the $3 off discount for students I could've gotten better quality frozen chicken from NTUC.
4 Fingers have crispy chicken wings with succulent meat inside and it just tastes different from the usual chicken wings you have had. Both their garlic and spicy chicken wings are delicious! Their fries are delicious too, taste way better than the McDonalds one. Their long queue though, is the only thing that is frustrating, and their seats are quite limited.
I just wish that they have a greater space for dine in, I felt quite confined whenever I dine in. They have promotions from time to time, so it is quite affordable for its quality of food.
