The Biggest 24 Hour Flea Market in Singapore
Overall Score

4.0
There are times when I wished I never knew of its existence, and also days that I feel it’s the best thing since sliced bread. Regardless, I can say that carousell has become one of my most frequently used apps. Its interface is sleek and it only takes a matter of seconds to list an item and put it up on the marketplace. With it’s large user base right now, you can expect to find anything under the sun, and even a prospective buyer for that Christmas present you received 5 years ago still rotting in your storeroom.

Time to time, there are also discount events like 24 hour flash sales along with the usual Black Friday or GSS ones, offering prices that you will never be able to find elsewhere. There are also times whereby they will promote certain categories, like how white and red items that were listed received their own category in the front page during the National Day period, resulting in greater traffic for your item if it fit into that particular event.

Whether you are looking for an obscure fan merchandise or a cheap bundle deal for socks, there’s something for everyone. Communication through the app is also smooth, reducing the need for other mediums suchlike email or messaging apps. I have had so many great deals in the past using Carousell, with bicycles, clothes and even textbooks bought at much cheaper prices than I expected. After all, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. I even managed to sell off a concert ticket one day before the concert. That said, I also had bad deals, with jeans being bought at conditions much poorer than what was stated by seller and phone cases that never arrived. It does help to always be wary of scams and the feedback function for each user help in that aspect. In general, the community is very friendly and there are some that might even go out of their way for your convenience. Give it a try - just use it in moderation!

Carousell (User: Macness)

Considering my iPhone cables have an average lifespan of ~4.79 months, my MacBook charger making it past three years was a cause for celebration. But yesterday it finally called it quits. So if it's 10.30 pm at City Hall and all physical Apple Stores on this island have closed, your go-to guy is Bras Besah based Carouseller Macness.

Macness offers MacBook 60w MagSafe 1 and 2 chargers for Macbook Air / Pro at $60. You'd have to pay $108 any Apple Store. They're also from Apple's original equipment manufacturer (OEM), so you don’t have to take any chances with knockoffs.

Who wouldn’t say yes to making a quick buck? My friend and I decided to set up a joint account to sell our preloved clothes one day, and it was then when I was first introduced to the most efficient buy-and-sell apps in Singapore.

Before Carousell, Singaporeans usually resort to Instagram to buy and sell their items, under the #sgselling hashtag. But considering how Instagram doesn’t allow you search more than one hashtag at once, filtering through all the photos for what you’re actually looking for is extremely tedious. With Carousell, all these woes are put to rest. Carousell is the place to go to find ANYTHING you need at a significantly cheaper price, be it clothes, or tickets to the zoo.

Users on Carousell are mostly self-regulated, which may result in some tiffs or regrettable events at times. But user trustworthiness can be determined by the feedback left on their profiles, and will greatly facilitate your shopping experience here on this app.

The newest form of e-shopping
Overall Score

4.0
Carousell is a mobile application available on both the Android and Apple store and serves as an e-shopping platform connecting sellers and buyers directly. Products sold on Carousell include stationery, clothes, furniture, make up … basically anything you can think of.

Some users also use Carousell as a platform to earn extra pocket money through Pre-Orders (PO) for popula products in stores. I absolutely love Carousell! Well, that’s perhaps because I’ve only had pleasant experiences with it thus far - the sellers were extremely helpful and prompt. Some of my friends aren’t as lucky though, some receive flawed products while others face buyers who back out last minute.

Thankfully, Carousell tries to target this problem by allowing sellers and buyers to leave reviews about the other party. This allows buyers and sellers to assess the credibility of the other party before dealing with them. On the whole, I would definitely recommend Carousell as the items sold on it are a lot cheaper than in stores!

Have you ever bought something and wondered why the heck you bought it in the first place? Don't worry, you're not alone. The salvation to your shopping guilt comes in the form of the app - Carousell.

You can find and sell just about anything on Carousell, which divides products into various categories like For Her, Beauty Products, Luxury and even things as specific as Tickets/Vouchers. This way, if you've ever regretted buying something, you can sell it off at the tip of your fingers.

Embodying the "buy first, think later" kiasu attitude, I guess it comes as no surprise that this app was made by Singaporeans.

An upgrade of Sgflea
Overall Score

I used to only sell my preloved items at sgflea.lj or the physical weekend flea markets. However, they are either too expensive or too burdensome.

Luckily for us, there’s now the carousell app!

I totally love their fuss-free dealings. First, it’s their simple snap and post interface. You can easily sell items in minutes without connecting to the computer. After posting, you can manage your listings as and when you like and they get instantly updated. Unlike some livejournal platforms, your listings no longer have to go through a moderator.

Their search function is also an added bonus to buyers. In the past, if you like a particular style, you have to conscientiously screen through all the online stores you know and might even end up not finding what you are looking for. With carousell, you can find the best deal for the same design!

Overall, I find that there’s still room for improvement. But until then, my experience with carousell is pleasant.

To describe Carousell as an app designed by "some NUS students" would probably be quite disappointing - I have to say that the app is GREAT and the students must have put in a lot of effort. However, Carousell seems to be facing quite a bit or problems lately - their server keeps crashing and hence their thousands of consumers are left hanging while selling or buying stuff.

However, their service is pretty commendable - whenever their customer service is pretty good as they continuously keep consumers updated on the status of their status or maintenance services. Their engineers also work round the clock when the server crashes during wee hours of the morning. Updates are also regular to keep the app top-notch.

I've been using Carousell since last November and it is amazing! I've personally bought so many items from sellers on Carousell and majority of them are very accommodating when I bombard them with questions . You can get items at really cheap prices which is a steal! You no longer have to travel to *Scape for fleas when you have a mobile app for that.

However, there is a need for you to be careful as sometimes, sellers may not be transparent with the details of their product and you will be left disappointed. For example, a few weeks ago I ordered a kimono cardigan from this seller. When it arrived, it looked nothing like what was pictured. I thought of confronting the seller but kept mum because it was the first time something like that has happened and I really couldn't be bothered.

Overall, that one incident has not deterred me from purchasing more items from Carousell. Although I would love to see an i-banking option straight from the app itself, Carousell has made shopping really easy and I sometimes worry about my credit card bill (hehe). Anyone who loves to shop and look for bargains, this is the app for you!

I only caved in and installed this much raved about app slightly more than a month ago, and definitely no regrets here. From my experience, I have learnt that the key is patience, whether you are a buyer or a seller.

As a buyer, there are multiple people selling the same things, and to find the best deal you just have to keep searching around. When I was looking for a textbook, the first price I came across was $10 (which was already cheaper than the retail price). A few scrolls down and there it was again, but this time round priced at $5. Also, do take into consideration the condition of the item and the location of the seller (there is really no point in traveling 2 hours just to save a dollar).

As a seller, do not expect response the minute you list your item. It takes time for people to come across your items, and patience to answer the queries of potential customers. The repetitive demands for more pictures or measurement of clothing could get annoying, so consider stating everything in the description.
