My friend and I decided to grab dinner at Poulet yesterday as we have never gave it a try before, so why not? This was considered a rather big outlet with about 80 to 100 seats. However, there were only 3 to 4 wait staff on duty.

We were standing at the entrance waiting to be seated and it took quite a while for one of them to notice us. He then he slowly sashay towards us and proceeded to sit us at our table. The service staff were very slow and didn't have a good work attitude. They took their time with serving our food and some pretended not to see us when we waved for assistance.

We ordered a Smoked Duck Pissaladiere as an shared appetizer, Half Chicken with Mushrooms, Bacon and Chardonnay Sauce, as well as a Half Chicken with Pommery Mustard and a Cranberry Sauce for our main course.

The Pissaladiere was below our expectations. It looked too simple, almost as if it was made from a home kitchen. The pastry wasn't warm and the flavours were not as robust as we thought. I would like it with a pinch of black pepper but there wasn't any condiments provided on the table.

The main courses performed better. The sauces were nicely done, the flavours were there and the consistency was just nice. However, I would prefer it to be warm and not at room temperature. The chicken thigh was tender and juicy but the chicken breast was slightly overcooked and hence a little dry. But I guess that's the difficulty to roasting a chicken. The chicken breast could be perfectly roasted but you risk the thigh being under-cooked.

In conclusion, I feel that Poulet is overrated and doesn't live up to its expectations. It is an affordable restaurant to dine at, but the food and the service have much room for improvement.

Had been wanting to try this French inspired restaurant, Poulet, for quite some time. And I got to do so after coming back from my Batam trip at Vivo. On a side note: I got quite proud of my noob-self when I understood what poulet meant when I was back in singapore(when Poulet just opened) after my France trip because the French stall owners were always Poulet? Poulet?~~

We waited for about 15 mins as the queue was teeming with people. I was really anticipating! :) but it was ultra crowded D; We decided on Poulet in Chardonnay sauce, Granny Chicken Salad and Creamy Mushroom Soup!

The creamy mushroom soup ($5.80) was really one of the creamiest mushroom soup I've ever tasted and every spoon was rich and tasteful. The biscotti toppings added as a complementary flourish(mind you, they were really crunchy :) but after the while the soup got a little sick for me :( it's always good if you can share your soup! And it was actually a tad too milky overall.

The Granny chicken salad($9.80) is so special! I was expecting it to be a mess of greens with a mix of chicken bits here and there but it wasn't. They came in a four-leaf style! So cute. I mean, more of unique :) The chicken scoops were a mash of chicken and some tuna-like bits, with sprinkles of raisins which made it sweet and just right. I like it! :D

Last but not the least we had the Chicken(well-brined) in Chardonnay and mushroom sauce. The chicken was really really tender, soft and juicy and sweet!
Luckily, we ordered half a chick ($15.80) to share if not the creaminess in it will overwhelm us and swallow us up. #Just saying.

Individually, every dish is finger lickin but we were wrong to order all creamy food that in the end we became quite bloated and sick. Service was not really good, but I shan't elaborate!

Anyway, after we left the restaurant, I happened to turn around and saw one man going up to our table to take our left behind receipt surreptitiously while (maybe pretending) talking on the phone! Then after, he went to the Italian restaurant opposite while looking sideways. I bet he was going in to "steal" more receipts!! I'm flummoxed by his erratic behaviour. :O
