Similar to Fish & Co., Manhattan Fish Market offers pretty much the same kind of food but at a lower quality. Tried their seafood platter before and it has way too much rice and fries and did not taste quite as good as Fish & Co.. They have unique flamed grilled prawns where they will flame the prawns in front of you before serving. But that’s about that. The sauce they drizzle over the prawns is too heavy and creamy that it masked the delicious grilled prawns’ aroma.

The restaurant at Plaza Singapura is really cramped and is not ideal to go on a Friday evening or weekends. There are too many people queuing outside and too many people inside that you can hear what the diners at the next table to talking. And it is disturbing to have service staff brushing past near you as you eat – because tables are too near each other. One other horrid experience I had at the Central branch was my discovery of fungus in the pepper shaker. I was shaking it and nothing came out, so I opened the cover and to my horror found white fluffy fungus inside. I informed the staff and they just replaced it with another pepper shaker and that was it. Will not visit Manhattan unless my friends insist on going there to eat. But I will never ever touch their pepper ever.

The Manhattan Fish Market has been the recent talk of the town with them launching their $3.99 for fish and chips offer at the end of last month for selected days. Being an ardent fan of Fish and Co, I had reservations when I had to settle for Manhattan Fish Market. I had ordered small grill (seafood platter for 1) which cost $19.90. I was able to complete my meal with a top up of $5.50 for a soup and a soft drink. The platter itself consisted of dory fish, calamari, prawns, garlic herb rice and chips. The dory fish was probably the only item on the platter I enjoyed. Calamari was required a whole lot of chewing and wasn’t that great tasting. The sizes of the prawns were so small after de-shelling them and felt so dry and tasteless. It was a sheer disappointment as I ordered the platter being a fan of seafood. The soup of the day was cream of mushroom which I enjoyed though it was slightly thick and clumpy. A little more water could have made the soup better. Plus, service I experienced on that day was poor as my platter arrived before my soup and drink. And I kept having to grab the attention of the waiters for refills of water and for additional sauces (mayonnaise and chili sauce). Overall, I think I’d still stick to Fish and Co when I’m craving some fish and chips or seafood platters.
