Previously Known as The Hangout, Play Nation is founded with the vision of creating a cosy and comfortable place where youths (and the young at heart) would have a place to play, bond, and socialize over fun and engaging games. Besides having over 200 designer board and card games in stock, Play Nation also has more than 100 hand-picked console game titles for the XBox 360 and Nintendo Wii platform.
With varieties of games for you to choose from the main problem would be: Time just fly by
One of my favorite games to play with my friends would be the famous, Just Dance! However, I find the space were too small for that game. We often find ourselves hitting the wall or nearby objects when we stretch to do a move. On top of that, I wouldn't recommend for one to play this game if you get embarrass easily. Reason being, since the walls were made of glass, passerbys will see your ridiculous movements by just staring in.
Apart from that, I find their service quite satisfying for they do answer your questions politely and help you solve your technical troubles if you have any. Aside from that, I don't see any problems except that you'll have to ask for a refill every single time despite the drinks being free flow.
Looking innocent and belittled, the only thing about the store that catches one's eyes would be the colourful display board at its doors boasting of the wonderful rates for board games and video games available. Of course, the vibrant, cheeky cartoon monkey that is its logo is a bonus as well.
We decided on board games and it was a choice we never regretted. Aside from common board games such as Scrabble and Monopoly, the outlet offers unique board games such as Boom Town, The Settlers, Saboteur. The lists simply go. Once we learnt the basic rules of the games, my friends made the devastating decision to team up against me. It was loads of fun as we 'sabo-ed' each other repeatedly to the extent that we were unwilling to leave the cafe for dinner and even extended our package from 1 hour to 3 hours.
One thing I like about Playnation was that they have an in-house kitchen so we can just order food as we play. Moreover, the staff are friendly and often offered to show us techniques to play the games. It was awesome when I learnt a few secrets and destroyed the alliance!
So it went on such that the hours passed by, before we knew it, it was 11pm already and all plans for a movie were declared shelved. Definitely a place I enjoyed tremendously and somewhere I would want to visit again!
That's an amazing range! Though of course if you choose to play console games, the rates would be slightly more expensive.
The variety of games suit people of all ages so it doesn't matter if you're there with your family or a bunch of crazy friends. They serve pretty good finger food for less than $10 so you can munch away whenever you're hungry too!
We were allocated a room. The room was pretty fine but there wasnt enough sitting area for all of us. The room was all equipped with the consoles, with both the wii and xbox. we got excited and decided to go for the band; (it was running on wii, a little disappointed cause xbox have better sensitivity level) but it turn out good la. haha then we decided to try dance! it was hilarious (go with happy people! it'll make it better haha) just that room was a little too small for all of us (7pax)
But the company of my friends make it enjoyable la! as a first timer, think its a fine experience! Payment was after the session! As i was the one paying, it got me a little shock cause i almost didnt have enough to pay cause of the additional GST and service charge!
oh ps; theres free flow syrup drink too (the taste could be improve though)
in all... err might reconsider again and do some calculation before i start playing!
Do make early reservations as demand is always more than supply!
I won't elaborate on the free flow drinks. Just imagine syrup... with loads of water. However, I do want to introduce a few fantastic games everyone should try out!
1) Bang! - Get ready for some mind games with this western-themed card game, suitable for 4-8 players but best with 5!
2) Saboteur - You'll have a blast trying to figure out who's on your team!
3) Headbanz - Okay, a little immature and pointless, but it'll have you laughing your head off that's for sure!
Don't worry if you do not know how to play the games, simply ask their friendly staff and they'll explain to you the rules clearly.
The seats might be a little tattered, and the lighting a tad too low, but hey, we paid merely $6 after all so it's still worth it!
What i liked most was that the console controls were in good conditions. I had encountered several times in other gaming shops where the console controls were less sensitive to the censor/spoilt.
For 8.50++ an hour during the happy hour 2-6pm with free flow drinks, it is pretty worth it to come, perhaps once every 2 months at most because 4 hours is aplenty to try many games.
Because of the size of the group, we've always opted to sit at the tables and play card or board games instead of electronic games, and so far we've tried and even bought some card games that we were addicted to. The staff are really knowledgeable about the games, like they seem to have memorized all the rules..it's kinda freaky. But they're really nice and will gladly explain and even demonstrate how the game is played. I find this a huge plus because no one wants to waste their time plowing through the instruction manual! We wanna get down and dirtyyy
All in all, Play Nation is a fantastic place to just chill out and have fun!
