We Tried LUSH’s V-Shaper Treatment And It’s The “Damage Control” You Need After Your CNY Binges

Facial treatments at LUSH Aesthetics

As CNY season’s festivities draw to a close, it’s time to get back to work – except signs of bloating or even a pale complexion may leave us feeling tired and desperate for an instant solution.

Enter LUSH Aesthetic’s Medispa, a one-stop shop to solving post-CNY beauty problems that’ll help you look and feel good after those late night banluck sessions. I headed down to try their newest non-invasive Korean V-Shaper Treatment, which promised me a slimmer jawline – just what I needed after all those pineapple tarts.

Here’s how it went:

The experience at LUSH Aesthetics

Instead, LUSH’s interior was luxurious, with fancy carpeted walls and gold furnishings all over. As I waited for my turn, I enjoyed some refreshing fruit-infused water and browsed through some beauty catalogues – the pampering had begun

Having a naturally small face, I was skeptical about the process and wondered if I would even notice a difference. However, the staff at LUSH explained that the treatment would be using a combination of massage techniques and Electro-regenerative Monopolar Radio-frequency technology, meaning immediate results.

And yes, I was just as confused after hearing those words, but all my doubts were cleared by LUSH’s friendly staff, who explained to me that this high-tech method helps stimulate collagen production in our skin

The consultation was informative and well-explained, putting me at ease before starting the treatment.

The V-Shaper treatment experience

1. Step One: Cleansing facial

Going above and beyond to help customers relax, my esthetician started out with lavender essential oil and gently massaged my shoulders and chest area. She then used a towel to put my hair out of my face in a swift motion, massaging my temples as she went along.

Before a facial, it’s paramount that any impurities are removed. This is to ensure that the skin absorbs nutrients, and nutrients only. For this, my esthetician used an oil cleanser. She explained that oil-based cleansers remove makeup more effectively, which saves the need for harsh scrubbing which could damage the skin and cause wrinkles in the long run.

And because the face massage was so relaxing, I had to request that she wake me up before she was about to start the treatment proper.

After removing my leftover eyeliner, a milk cleanser was then applied on my skin. Compared to normal cleansers that leave the skin feeling squeaky clean, milk cleansers are gentler and do not strip the skin of its natural moisture.  Working with a clean canvas meant that my skin could better absorb the creams applied on my face too.

2. Step Two: Prepping the skin for treatment

The tools used to stimulate collagen production included a round top pen, which directed Radio Frequency (RF) waves to the targeted areas of my face. When dragging a tool across the skin, it is important that the surface is well lubricated and the gel used did just the trick. It was applied with a clean brush and spread across my face evenly.

My esthetician told me that it might feel tingly around the dry patches on my skin, but the gel was generally cooling. After the gel settled, it was time to begin my collagen boosting journey to a sharper face

Step Three: Starting the Radio Frequency treatment

My esthetician began the treatment by first placing a metal plate under my thigh. I was intrigued by this strange step and she told me that the 50% of the energy needed to power the RF waves were generated from my body while the other 50% was from the machine. The stimulation of collagen production meant that I was one treatment away to firmer, rejuvenated skin.

The round top “pen” was then used to make circular motions on my face, directing the RF waves to my skin and massaging it at the same time. I found myself feeling less tense, and learned that this massage technique helps relax the facial muscles, better achieving a tighter jawline

The process was repeated on my brow. I was looking forward to this part the most because I always wanted to lift my eyelids a little – without having to look into more permanent procedures.

Left: Pre-treatment | Right: Post-treatment; face is lifted.

I was pleased when she woke me up to show me one half of my face done. The results were surprising, as the side of my face that had undergone the treatment was significantly tighter and lifted. The same steps were then carried out on the other half.

The result? A painless and instant facelift. For a non-invasive surgery that took less than an hour, the results were pretty impressive.

4. Post-Treatment care

A rosewater toner was used to minimise signs of redness or irritation after the treatment was completed.

After I was done admiring my sharper jawline, my esthetician advised me to stay away from active products containing Glycolic, AHA and Retinol – ingredients commonly found in whitening creams or acne medication – for at least 3 days after the treatment to avoid irritation.

She also emphasised the importance of sunscreen and advised wearing one with an SPF of at least 35. This is to protect the skin from harmful UV rays – something that’s tough to avoid in SG’s scorching weather.

LUSH Aesthetics’ Tinted Sunblock ($98)

I was surprised that no moisturizer was put before the sunscreen, I was assured that the sunscreen’s creamy consistency meant that it hydrated the skin while protecting it from sun damage.

An instant facelift!

There was a quite the difference in my face, despite only having undergone one treatment sesh. I noticed that my face was sharper and my eye area was more lifted, giving me a more refreshed look.
