The bustling and modern metropolis of Kuala Lumpur is the beating heart of Malaysia, functioning as its capital and executive seat of government. Kuala Lumpur is a sprawling city with many residential and economic suburbs, and its roads and highways are a maze with constant development works taking place. Towering at 451.9m, and recognised as the tallest building in Malaysia and among the tallest in the world, the imposing Petronas Twin Towers is an iconic landmark of Kuala Lumpur. Mainly consisting of offices and shopping malls, the Petronas Twin Towers also has a manicured jogging park, the Skybridge Viewing Gallery, and the national philharmonic orchestra, the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas.

2. Lake Gardens

The Lake Gardens is a large recreational park which provides a fresh burst of greenery amid the urban landscape of Kuala Lumpur. Largely consisting of beautifully manicured gardens and sculptures, the Lake Gardens also houses the Malaysia National Monument, Hibiscus Garden, Orchid Garden, Kuala Lumpur Bird Park, Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park, Tun Abdul Razak Memorial and Deer Park.

3. Aquaria KLCC

The Aquaria KLCC, otherwise known as the Aquaria Kuala Lumpur City Centre, is an oceanarium with a 90 m underwater tunnel. Housing over 250 species of aquatic and land animals from Malaysia and around the world, the Aquaria KLCC is a themed experience that takes visitors from the mountains, through rainforests and rivers, to mangroves and coral reefs and finally to the ocean.

4. National Museum

Designed in the Rumah Gadang style of architecture, the National Museum in Kuala Lumpur serves as a repository of the rich historical and cultural heritage of Malaysia. The diverse range of exhibits in the National Museum showcase the history, culture and traditions, arts and crafts, economic activities, local flora and fauna, weapons, and currency of Malaysia, some dating as far back as the stone age.

5. KL Tower

Often abbreviated as the KL Tower, the Kuala Lumpur Tower is the other iconic landmark of the city, competing with arch-rival the Petronas Twin Towers for dominance of the Malaysia skyline. Primarily used for broadcasting purposes, the KL Tower also incorporates a shopping mall with cascading pools, a 276 m high observation platform offering a 360 degree view of the city, a revolving restaurant, and a 100 year old jelutong tree.
