These days, we’re more conscious about where we shop and what we put into our bodies. For a sustainable shopping spree, check out The Social Space in Chinatown, where you’ll get to purchase stuff that’s good for both you and the environment. Plus, it’s also a super cosy concept store with an in-house cafe, perfect for a chill day out.
From shopping eco-friendly groceries to pampering yourself with a healthy meal and mani-pedi, here’s what to expect.
The salon has iPads to keep customers entertained.

Many of us don’t consider the fact that regular nail polish can be pretty harmful to our nails, especially if you always get new sets. Those looking for a solution can try out a toxin-free manicure at The Social Space’s in-house nail salon, The Nail Social.
The special nail parlour uses eco-friendly polishes, which means you don’t need to stress about chemical ingredients. While getting your nail makeover, you’ll also get to play games or watch Netflix on their iPads.
Best of all, you’ll be supporting marginalised women who struggle with employment, as The Nail Social hires and trains these women to be nail techs.

The Social Space’s retail shop continues to live up to its socially conscious theme. The grocer sells products attained through fairtrade, which basically means you’re purchasing higher quality goods that are ethically sourced from farmers.
When you’re there, you’ll get to shop for items ranging from lifestyle goods to household essentials. We’re talking everything from fashion items like upcycled slides ($69) and tote bags ($19.90) to cool zero-waste items like bamboo toothbrushes ($6) and reusable straw bracelets ($8).

There’s also a refillery section where you’ll be able to purchase product refills for soaps and other household goods, so that you won’t need to keep throwing away your existing bottles and adding to plastic waste.

It probably comes as no surprise, but you’re in for a wholesome meal at The Social Space’s in-house cafe.

Choose from a selection of toasts and smoothie bowls, like a fan-favourite Avo+Egg toast ($10/single portion) or refreshing treats like a Tropicana smoothie bowl ($14) made with a combination of fruits and honey. Drinks wise, the cafe offers specialty coffees starting from $3.50 for a double espresso, as well as a range of lattes, juices and teas.
If you want some snacks to take home, they also sell baked goodies like banana bread ($4/slice) and protein balls ($1.50 each) for you to nom on.

With a bunch of activities to enjoy, including workshops like the ongoing Cyanotype Printing Workshop ($70/pax), The Social Space is totally worth the visit – and even more so if you’re looking to dabble in more eco-friendly practices. After all, you know what they say – if you do good, you’re sure to feel good too.
