Being a West-sider isn’t easy – we get teased about bringing our passports wherever we go. But it’s no secret that sparkly new malls are popping up everywhere around Jurong, making the West one of the new places to be. And with all these developments, IMM has not been left out.
A stalwart of Singapore’s West, IMM has been busy revamping itself and developing new reasons for us to visit. Today, it’s completely different from what it used to be a decade ago. And that is a very good thing. Here are 10 reasons why IMM is no longer the mall you used to know.
IMM will be home to more than 80 outlet stores by the end of 2015, making it the largest outlet mall in Singapore. Outlet stores are stores retailing collections from seasons past. You’ll get to shop till you drop with up to 80% discounts all year round.
Whether it’s finding the right massage chair at the OSIM outlet store for your parents, getting a new pair of spectacles in under 20 minutes at the OWNDAYS outlet store, or a new colourful dress at the Desigual Garage, there’s something for everyone here – at a discount.
I’m not sure what makes me happier – the fact that Hai Di Lao is finally in the West or the complimentary services they offer as you wait for a table. You may have to queue, but when you’re being pampered with a free manicure, it may just be worth the wait. Hai Di Lao also offers free flow of fruits and drinks and even a playroom cordoned off for the kids. How thoughtful!
And if Hai Di Lao isn’t your thing, there are other restaurants and cafes serving a dazzling array of different cuisines like Lian Peng Bak Kut Teh, Seasonal Salad Bar, and Wan Chai Hong Kong Tea Room to turn to when your hunger pangs kick in.
Ladies, consider visiting IMM’s Coach Outlet for a glimpse of their exclusive outlet designed bags. You’d think they would be sold at full price since they are exclusive to the outlet, but I was surprised to see that a good number of them were on 30% discount. Being an outlet store also means you can snag past season boutique bags at a heavily discounted price at IMM as well!
In addition, the agnes b. outlet store also carries an exclusive collection that can only be found at the outlet store at IMM! That’s a unique selling point right there.
Tip: Go early in the day to avoid the queues.
There’s a bunch of new outlet stores that just opened in September and October, like Outlet by Club 21, IMAGINEX Group Outlet, COMMUNE Outlet, MOISELLE Outlet, Charles & Keith Outlet, and Pedro Outlet. Check out the full list of IMM’s outlet stores here.
For a fraction of the original price, get your new kicks from the outlet stores at IMM. Choose past season designs from New Balance Factory Outlet, Converse Outlet, Puma Outlet, adidas Outlet, and the soon-to-open Onitsuka Tiger outlet. Word has it that you can get past season New Balance sneakers at 20-40% discounts.
This is for those of you whose friends work in the West. IMM is part of the weekday@west privilege programme, a joint initiative between IMM, Westgate and JCube, where people who work in the West get to enjoy more than 100 dining and shopping deals on weekdays. For example, you could enjoy a scrumptious three-course lunch that includes Beef Bulgogi Bap, Mandu appetiser and a drink for just $10 at Seoul Garden at IMM. Find out more about the weekday@west privilege programme here.
For the night owls, grocery shop till late at Giant Hypermarket, one of the few hypermarkets in Singapore. I love this place because they literally stock everything you need. From bicycles to towels, fans, and extra tee shirts, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
Giant Hypermarket Opening Hours:
Mon-Thurs: 9am- 11pm
Fri, Sun: 8am – 11pm
Sat: 8am – 12mn
What’s better than finding a parking lot during peak hours? Finding out that you get two hours of free parking every day at IMM. ‘Nuff said.
IMM’s third floor is a furniture fantasyland. You’d be forgiven for thinking you had just walked into a vastly oversized furniture one-stop shop. Even Best Denki has moved up to Level 3 with a newly refurbished store , along with 50 other home furnishing stores, including Picket & Rail Outlet, Lux Grandeur, Mondi Lifestyle Gallery, Slumberland, Sim Siang Choon and more.
Whether you’re looking for bedding, kitchen hardware, home appliances, or luxurious furniture to pamper your home, you’ll surely find it at IMM.
If you’re not driving, fret not because IMM has got you covered. There’s a complimentary shuttle service available at JCube or Westgate – 5 minutes away from Jurong East MRT – that runs from 10.30am-10.30pm daily.
It’s easy for pedestrians too. Now, if you want to walk to IMM from Jurong East MRT, it’s a breeze with the sheltered pedestrian link bridge named J-Walk, accessible from Westgate on L2 near Xpressflower.com, via the Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and the Devan Nair Institute.
Shopping is fun, but it’s even better when you’re rewarded for spending with CapitaLand Mall Asia’s multi-mall, multi-store rewards programme, CAPITASTAR. For every $20 spent, you’ll receive 100 STAR$ (except for supermarket and food court receipts). Accumulate 5000 points and you can exchange them for a $5 CapitaVoucher. Find out more on how to be a CAPITASTAR member here.
Enough reading – it’s time to Go West (after all, life is peaceful there) and visit IMM to cash in on the biggest bargains. You can also find out more about the latest deals through IMM’s Facebook page. And since you’re already in the West, why not try and explore our list of things to do in the West?
