The Mill Is A Gothic Building At Alexandra With Gotham City Vibes & A Dreamy Chandelier-Lit Cafe

The Mill Singapore

Singapore is known for some unique buildings that line our cityscapes – from the world-renowned rain vortex at Jewel Changi to the futuristic Supertrees at Gardens by the Bay. Adding to the list, The Mill is a relatively under-the-radar building nestled in the industrial area of Bukit Merah.

The all-black building has an alluring facade that looks just like LexCorp – the headquarters of Superman’s arch-nemesis. Apart from marvelling at its exterior, there’s a spacious cafe to grab coffee at and a garden within to relax your mind. Here’s a peek into The Mill:

Who designed The Mill?

The building is made up of 2 towers – the one on the left is inspired by neo-gothic architecture while the other is influenced by post-industrial American architecture.

The Mill exudes an old world charm that makes you feel like you’re in a vintage European town. It’s designed by Swan & Maclaren alongside James Adams, whose other masterpieces also include the Art Deco style Parkview Square that’s reminiscent of Gotham City.

The pointed arches atop the building look just like the chess pieces Beth Harmon visualises on the ceiling in the Netflix series, The Queen’s Gambit

The murals at the carpark are great as backdrops for your OOTD – vintage cars are also commonly spotted there thanks to the tenants

Shoutout to those in the creative industry, The Mill’s office spaces were designed with you in mind. With 6m-high ceilings and tall windows, you’d have ample headspace to get your ideas flowing. If you’re an entrepreneur looking for a new office location, this stylish building makes an ideal workspace.

There’s also a quiet garden terrace on the 6th floor, where you can enjoy the fresh air and scenery – a good place to just lepak or read a book on the wooden benches.

Those working around the CBD and cafe hoppers alike would be familiar with Alchemist, famous for their quality espresso-based pour-over coffee. Their outlet here has a unique Victorian-style interior that matches the theme of the building, lit with a beautiful chandelier in the center.

Popular beverages include the velvety Iced Mocha ($7) and the Ice Chocolate ($6), which can satisfy your sweet tooth cravings.

How to get to The Mill?

It’s recommended to drive or take a cab over as the place is not easily accessible via public transport. While there is paid parking in the building, lots are limited. Alternatively, you can take a train to Redhill Station. Then, take bus 139 and alight at ‘Opp Pacific Tech Centre’ bus stop. The Mill is a 5-minute walk away.
