Having heard my friends rave about the waffle-and-meat combinations at Wowffle Burger, I had high expectations for my virgin visit there – and the Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Burger ($12.80) I tried didn’t disappoint. Between two crispy charcoal waffles was a piece of juicy chicken thigh, neither element overpowering the other. End result: mindblowing.

If you’re not a fan of chicken, their extensive menu also has other waffle burger variants like beef, pork, or crab (from $8.80 – $15.80). I’m looking forward to trying their crab burger next – fried soft shell crab with homemade fish roe sauce sounds irresistible.

Griddy prides itself as a gourmet waffle bar, serving up sweet and savoury waffles in flavours that will satisfy all palates. If you’re spoilt for choice, go for the classic Griddy Burger ($9.90). You can’t possibly go wrong with a juicy beef patty, mushrooms, and cheese kiapped in a waffle. 

But be warned: those who love that shiok feeling of sinking their teeth into a perfect crispy waffle might be disappointed.

Don’t judge a burger by its cover, because this Duck Confit Burger (1 for $6, 2 for $10) by The Ugly Duckling tastes much better than it looks. This winning combination includes shredded duck leg, cheddar, and caramelised pineapple – all drizzled with kecap manis (sweet soya sauce) before being stuffed between brioche.
