It’s been 6 years since Nintendo and Resorts World Singapore (RWS) announced that our little island will have its very own Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Singapore (USS) on Sentosa.
Thanks to the pandemic, things have been somewhat delayed, and so Super Nintendo World USS Singapore did not open as planned, which had been slated for 2025. Well, it’s 2026, and there’s still no update on an estimated opening. While we await that news, here’s everything we know about the upcoming park extension:
Universal first announced plans to bring Nintendo’s video games to life back in 2016. Since then, they’ve opened Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Japan (USJ), which launched in March 2021, Universal Studios Hollywood in February 2023, and the latest, in Universal Epic Universe, Orlando, in May 2025.
This latest has been the biggest of all the Super Nintendo Worlds thus far. While USJ and Universal Epic Universe have both Super Mario Land and Donkey Kong Country., USJ is way smaller.
Designed just like a living video game, the immersive theme park land of Super Nintendo World sees multi-layered kinetic sets with augmented reality (AR), and even wearable gamification tech.
While it’s not clear exactly how big an expansion we’re getting at USS, or the rides we can expect, RWS’ early plans have suggested that we will be getting a Mario Kart building.
This would most probably refer to Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, a signature anchor attraction that all of the current Super Nintendo Worlds feature.
For the uninitiated, this dark ride is a competitive shooting game where players will have to put on AR goggles, with the karts taking you through iconic environments that you’ll recognise from the game franchise.
P.S.: This is the only ride available at Universal Studios Hollywood; one hopes we will have at least 1 of the other 2 signature rides here at USS.
Both USJ and Universal Epic Universe have Yoshi’s Adventure – a family-friendly ride where you get to ride on Yoshi on an elevated track, while hunting for Captain Toad’s eggs.
We’re not optimistic about USS getting our very own Mine-Cart Madness, since it’s a roller coaster specific to the Donkey Kong Country expansions which USJ and Universal Epic Universe in Orlando have.
Just to let you know what it’s all about, this cray roller coaster was developed together with Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, and simulates jumping over broken tracks – just like in the retro video games.
What’s ultra cool about all the Super Nintendo Worlds is the Power-Up Band which you can buy in the parks. These character-themed RFID wristbands can be linked to any park’s app, after which you can physically punch Question Mark Blocks around the land to collect digital coins.
With these bands, you can also play mini-games to earn digital keys; with 3 keys, you unlock an exclusive game against Bowser Jr.! Plus, when you leave the parks, they become fully functional Nintendo Switch amiibo for games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or Super Smash.
As with all themed lands within a Universal Studios park, you can expect themed F&B options in Super Nintendo World too.
One might expect our version of the Toadstool Cafe, named after Chef Toad, or maybe Kinopio’s Cafe – in other parks, this features virtual windows through which you can watch Toads cook, with Super Mario-themed burgers, and mushroom soup.
At USJ, there’s 1-UP Factory and Mario Motors, where you can stock up on everything Super Mario-related.
At this point, all we can say is that good things come to those who wait – Super Nintendo World is coming to USS for sure, all that remains is the when.
