Chinese New Year is on a Tuesday this year, which means you can easily make it an extra long weekend by applying for leave on Monday. If you’re one of the many Singaporeans galloping back to Malaysia for Chinese New Year, we’ve got a pretty compelling pit stop for you: Sunway Pyramid.
This CNY, the mall in KL goes all out with performances, bazaars, freebie redemptions like blind boxes, and activities that turn a simple shopping trip into an exciting full-day affair. If you’re ready to trot your way into the Year of the Horse, here are 5 Sunway Pyramid CNY festivities worth making the trip for.
Before you plan your CNY pit stop, here’s a quick intro. Sunway Pyramid is an iconic shopping mall located in Sunway City, about a 30-minute drive from Kuala Lumpur city centre. If the name sounds familiar, that’s because it’s hard to miss. The mall is renowned for its Egyptian-themed design, featuring a pyramid-shaped exterior and a massive sphinx head guarding the entrance. It’s one of those places where even first-timers go, “Ohhh, this one.”
Inside, you’ll find everything from shopping and dining to entertainment. Trust us, it’s an easy one-stop destination, especially during Chinese New Year when the mall really comes alive.
First things first, why not bring your whole fam out this CNY? Kids, grandparents, and all. Sunway Pyramid has a couple of live happenings that are sure to brighten the mood in between shopping and makan sessions.
Head to the Fortune House of Blessings, where you can draw a festive fortune for the Year of the Horse and take home a little dose of luck for the year ahead. Then, swing by the Lanternlight Photobooth. Set against a festive backdrop, it’s an easy way to capture family portraits or couple shots to show off your CNY outfits. No need for mirror selfies that are so basic.
Whether you’re visiting with young kids, a multigenerational group, or just want keepsakes beyond shopping bags, these activities make for nice, unhurried moments amid the festive buzz.

But that’s not all – you can also meet the famous family in person during The Kuans’ CNY Tour, happening on 24th January at 3pm at LG2 Orange Concourse. Here’s a rare chance for you to meet them in the flesh if you’ve been bingeing all their YouTube videos.

For 1 day only on 21st February, the energy dials up with LED Lion Dance performances that feel extra dramatic and photo-worthy. There are also 24 Festive Drums performances to catch on various dates at LG2 Orange Concourse, a crowd favourite that really sets the festive mood.
Most performances are happening on weekends and key festive dates – it’s easy to time your visit so you don’t miss out on the action.
At Sunway Pyramid, you can settle all your CNY shopping in one go. Throughout the festive period, the mall plays host to a line-up of CNY bazaars where you can stock up on everything from snacks and gift items to last-minute reunion dinner essentials. Some bazaars cover all the festive bases nicely under one roof, no extra legwork required.
Start with the CNY Reunion Bazaar at LG2 Central Avenue and LG2 Orange Concourse, where you’ll find festive treats, gift sets, and lifestyle picks that work well for visiting relatives. Over at LG2 Oasis Avenue, the Jaya Grocer CNY Fair is your go-to for groceries, snacks and pantry staples – it’s especially handy if you’re hosting or heading over with a car boot to fill.
There’s also the Blessing Garden by City Gardening for festive plants, The Prosperity Market for artisanal finds, and even a Lancome New Year Pop-Up at the GF Water Feature if you’re looking to get some new skincare or gifting something a little more atas this CNY.
If you’re already planning to shop for your CNY essentials, you might as well make it count. Hit a minimum spend on 3 same-day receipts at Sunway Pyramid, and you’ll be able to redeem some festive freebies.
The mall has plenty of spots to tick off your festive checklist, from cheongsams at Emerald Brilliant to more modern CNY outfits at Room8008. You can also stock up on CNY snacks and mandarin oranges at familiar names like Jaya Grocer, Lavender, Bestore, and Bee Chee Hiang.
When it comes to reunion dinners, there’s no shortage of options either. Book a table at Oriental Sun, Grand Imperial, or Andaman Seafood & Dim Sum, or opt for the halal-certified Dandy and pork-free DIN if you’re dining with mixed groups. Between shopping, groceries and makan, hitting your spend threshold might be easier than you think.
Here’s how you can redeem your gifts: Spend on 3 same-day receipts and you’ll be eligible for CNY redemptions at the LG2 Orange Concourse. Shoppers who spend RM588 (~S$186.27) can redeem a Prosperous Angpow.
Up the spend to RM1,288 (~S$408.01) and you’ll get an adorable Tricia Lew Blind Box Lucky Bag Charm plus 1kg of Jasmine Sunwhite Rice. For those going big, a spend of RM3,888 (~S$1,231.63) unlocks a Prosperous Yee Sang Plate Set, which comes in handy if you’re hosting reunion meals this CNY. Redeem an e-voucher within the Sunway Super App, and swing by Sunway Pyramid from 26th January onwards to collect the set of plates.
UOB cardmembers enjoy slightly lower spending thresholds across the board – a nice bonus if you’re already swiping while getting your CNY prep done.
Beyond the main highlights, there’s plenty more happening around Sunway Pyramid to keep things interesting throughout the festive period. Look out for meet-and-greet sessions, CNY promo tours, and roadshows happening across the mall – they’re nice little surprises that make each visit feel a bit different, especially if you’re popping by more than once during your KL trip.
It’s also a good excuse to check out Malaysian brands while you’re there. After all, there’s no such thing as “too many” new festive clothes. Plus, we’re sure your friends and family in Singapore will appreciate CNY snacks from familiar names like Bee Cheng Hiang, Lavender, Bestore, and Jaya Grocer.
