Future X: SK-II’s First-Ever Smart Store In SEA Shows Us The Future Of Beauty Technology

SK-II’s Future X Smart Store

Every now and again, we get all hyped up by the appearance of an SK-II experiential store along Orchard Road. Remember the Change Destiny store last year packed with Insta-worthy photo spots?

This year, SK-II is taking their skincare game to a whole new level with the Future X Smart Store and it’s packed with cutting-edge beauty technology and artificial intelligence (AI). The smart store allows guests to immerse into a retail experience which marries physical and digital worlds (a.k.a “phygital”), with everything from a digital smart wall to contactless skin scans, making you wonder if you’ve travelled into the future.

Being the first of its kind in Southeast Asia, the Future X Smart Store made some massive waves in Tokyo when it first opened. And now, we will finally be able to experience all of it in the heart of town. Here’s what you can expect:

“The Art of You” – a reactive digital smart wall that reads your facial expression

Stroll along just outside Mandarin Gallery and the SK-II Smart Store instantly grabs your attention with “The Art of You”, a reactive digital smart wall that has the ability to read your facial expression. Blink, smile, grimace, fake a laugh – whatever you do, the wall will be sure to catch it and “respond” accordingly.

Blinking triggers a wave of energy lines while different expressions bring on a change in colour.

Enter the doors of the Smart Store – here, you’ll be greeted with futuristic interiors and outfitted with your own Smart Bracelet for the contactless skin analysis you’re about to take.

An AI skin scan like no other

Presenting our flaws before the harsh scrutiny of a skincare consultant can be slightly intimidating. Thankfully, at the Smart Store, SK-II lets you forgo all that.

Instead, simply step into one of their individual booths; the mirror you’re looking into instantly analyses your face without even having to touch it. +100 points for all us who don’t love things brushing our complexion.

Scanning…complete.

FYI, this is a state-of-the-art A.I. device that is backed with serious tech – such as “computer vision” and SK-II’s proprietary Skin Science and Diagnostics innovation. Think of it as a futuristic reinvention of SK-II’s iconic Magic Ring Skin analysis!

And you can get your results without a long wait. Just tap on your Smart Bracelet, and an interactive skincare wall will unveil the deets on your specific skin condition.

Just a tap of your bracelet and your skin age will be revealed!

Results in hand, head over to their Smart Beauty Bar to enjoy a personalised product browsing experience tailored for you based on your analysis and skin type. You’ll also be let in on some tips and tricks to achieve and maintain a crystal clear complexion.

Bonus: Take IG-worthy shots at an interactive LED colour canvas

If you’re looking for a neat photo to commemorate your trip into the future, grab the chance to swirl up some colorful patterns on an LED “colour canvas” and score that boomerang.

Tip: Angle your photo so that your reflection pops into the background, creating an “infinite reflections” effect!

A seemingly normal girl with the appetite of a baby T-Rex and a penchant for all things bohemian. Perpetually in pursuit of the best vanilla chai latte in town, you'll find her huddled in a quaint cafe with a book or fountain pen in hand, inking her way through stacks of paper perfecting the alphabet.
