We’ve learnt time and again that Singapore has deep harbours and a rich maritime industry. The only time we actually catch a glimpse of it in action? When we drive past Keppel Harbour on the way to VivoCity.
See beyond massive containers and even larger cranes at the free-entry Singapore Maritime Gallery, filled with interactive exhibits and games for the kids.

Picture this: You’re at Marina South Pier. No, it’s not to go on another cruise ride. A stone’s throw away from the MRT is the Singapore Maritime Gallery, showcasing a condensed version of our maritime heritage.

There are no social studies textbooks here – kids can learn from a wide variety of interactive activities across 4 zones. Little ones may be too young to sail a ship but they can have a taste of it at the Ship-Handling Simulator, with 8 different “games” to conquer as captain.

Steer a virtual boat through open waters at Junior Maritime Navigator – IRL storms may be intimidating but this certainly won’t be with the cutesy watercolour-style aesthetic.

AR exhibits don’t only exist in the ArtScience Museum. Play this interactive ship spotter game with your mini-me. They’ll learn about the different types of boats coming by Singapore – a fun tidbit of information that the family can put to good use the next time you play I spy at the seaside.

Walk through an actual 20-foot container – the same one you see near VivoCity – and learn more about the history of lighthouses. There are plenty of fun facts for the kids to pick up on, to power up their general knowledge XP.

Rain or shine, bring the kids to the Singapore Maritime Gallery. Even if the weather is burning hot, you’ll be chilling in the cool AC here while getting an educational experience with the little ones.
An explorer’s corner with craft activities also lies in there, so don’t forget to stop by for some doodles before leaving. Admission is free and guided tours are available as well.
