Iconic Places SIA Featured In Their New In-Flight Safety Video & What’s Changed Since The Last Version

Singapore Airlines’ new in-flight safety video

Apart from the iconic “And to all Singaporeans, a very warm welcome home” greeting from the cabin crew, there’s something else many of us secretly look forward to whenever we board a Singapore Airlines flight – the in-flight safety video. Instead of showing a cookie-cutter demo on seatbelts and life vests, our national carrier has always jazzed things up by sneaking in landmarks and familiar scenes around Singapore.

Now, after 8 long years, they’ve finally dropped a new 2025 in-flight safety video. Here’s a look at the places featured, and how the latest version stacks up against the older video many of us still remember.

What is the new in-flight safety video all about?

It’s not your typical safety demo for sure – it’s also a mini Singapore tour rolled into one. You’ll still see the must-know bits like how to fasten your seatbelt and put on an oxygen mask, but it’s all woven into a journey across our city.

The video is a collab with the Singapore Tourism Board, and showcases the places that make Singapore, well, Singapore. It also features a mix of real-life footage and watercolour-style effects – kinda like the colourful murals you see splashed across our island.

And the end goal is simple: locals get that cosy “I’m home” feeling the moment it plays, while visitors get a crash course in what makes the Little Red Dot so special.

When can passengers view the new in-flight safety video on Singapore Airlines flights?

Singapore Airlines will start rolling out the new in-flight safety video on all flights from the end of October 2025.

If you’re still a die-hard fan of the old version with the Singapore Girl, AKA SIA stewardess, consider this your sign to squeeze in one last trip before it officially retires. Don’t worry though – you can always rewatch it online for a dose of nostalgia.

For those who are too excited to wait till October, the new video is already up on YouTube.

Places featured in the new in-flight safety video

Our small island is packed with feature-worthy locations, but these are spots that made the cut.

Gardens by the Bay

We weren’t surprised to see that the video kicks off at Gardens by the Bay (GBTB), probably Singapore’s most recognisable attraction after the Merlion. From the Supertrees to the colourful blooms at the Flower Dome, GBTB is pretty much the poster child of our “Garden City” nickname.

The reel then glides into the Cloud Forest, which TBH, feels like every Singaporean’s go-to hideout when the weather outside gets unbearable. The 58m-tall glass dome houses over 7,000 plants across 135 species and hybrids, but everyone’s camera roll is probably filled with shots of that 35m indoor waterfall.

GBTB is one of those places that never gets old – there’s always some seasonal display or event to check out, and seeing it in the safety video might just make you want to plan another trip there right after you land.

Jurong Lake Gardens

Over in the west, the video makes a pit stop at Jurong Lake Gardens – a 90-hectare national garden that’s equal parts photogenic and family-friendly. There are play areas for the kiddos, and plenty of green space if you just want to chill.

In a fun twist, the cabin crew actually meets a lion dance troupe here, where the dancers demonstrate take-off and landing safety tips, like securing tray tables and keeping your seat upright.

It also features a family cycling through the lush greenery as the crew demonstrates things like fastening seatbelts, lifting infants safely from bassinets, and securing them properly. We think it’s a clever way of weaving safety into everyday scenes.

HDB flats

If Singapore had a national living room, it’d be the humble HDB. Most of us grew up in one, and for young couples, applying for a BTO before tying the knot is almost like a rite of passage.

The video gives us a peek inside a typical HDB unit, where a family is gathered around the dining table for a durian feast. Right in the middle of the heavenly – or super pungent – aroma, the actors demonstrate how to use oxygen masks in an emergency.

This is one of the funniest moments in the reel, and judging from the comments, plenty of viewers found it too relatable – who hasn’t tried to tahan the durian smell while your family happily digs in?

The scene then flows down to the void deck, where 2 kolam artists work with coloured rice flour, creating an intricate design inspired by the Singapore Airlines batik motif – a heartwarming nod to Singapore’s melting pot of cultures.

Tanjong Beach, Sentosa

When you think of beaches in Singapore, Sentosa probably tops the list for both locals and visitors alike. In the video, Singapore Airlines’ cabin crew head down to Tanjong Beach and hang out with the national Silat team during practice.

They turn emergency safety tips into a mini martial arts demo, showing brace positions and evacuation techniques with some serious flair – making you actually pay attention for once.

Village Hotel Sentosa

There are plenty of hotels in Sentosa, but the one that scores a cameo is Village Hotel Sentosa, famous for its 4 themed pools right on the deck. Here, the actors show you how to locate your aircraft life vest, use it properly, and even board a safety raft like a pro.

Things get extra fun when an aqua aerobics group joins in, forming the shape of a safety raft with synchronised moves.

The scene ends with a quick demo on sliding down an evacuation slide. But if you ask us, this feels like a missed opportunity to feature an old-school playground and the beloved dragon slide. Now that would have been an iconic moment.

Lau Pa Sat

Right in the heart of the CBD, Lau Pa Sat is one of those hawker centres that most locals probably skip, but it’s perfect for visitors wanting a taste of our hawker culture.

Our favourite moment is when the camera lingers on a satay stall, with the smoky barbecue grill serving as a cheeky reminder that, yes, smoking is definitely not allowed on board.

And we’re not the only ones – a quick scroll through Instagram shows people calling out the durian and satay scenes as the highlights.

Esplanade

The video wraps up on the Esplanade rooftop – most recognisable by its durian-shell-like exterior. This is our performing arts hub, hosting concerts, theatre shows, and arts festivals all year round.

In the video, the rooftop gives you a sweeping view of Marina Bay, creating a finale that’s cinematic, classy, and unmistakably Singaporean.

What are the differences between the old & new in-flight safety videos by Singapore Airlines?

It’s been 8 years since the last Singapore Airlines in-flight safety video, so of course, there are some changes. If you’re wondering what they are, we’ve helped to gather what’s new and what’s familiar.

Colour grading

Right from the get-go, you can tell the vibe is different. The 2025 video leans into warmer, sun-kissed colours that make every scene feel alive and inviting, while the old version had cooler tones with a subtle blue tinge.

Both videos still kick off with those classic wide shots of Singapore landmarks like GBTB and the Marina Bay skyline, but the new one just feels slightly sunnier and happier.

Cabin crew

The biggest change most viewers have noticed is that the new video features 2 cabin crew – a steward and a stewardess – while the old one had just the iconic Singapore Girl.

Naturally, opinions are split. Some viewers can’t resist weighing in on who’s “prettier,” as if that’s the main takeaway. Honestly, let’s leave the looks out of it – the solo focus of the old video probably just made it tug at the heartstrings a little more.

We think both versions have their charm: the old one for its timeless elegance, and the new one for its playful, colourful take on everyday Singaporean life.

Background music

If you noticed, the old video had a slower, more calming soundtrack – which, depending on who you ask, is either soothing or a little too soporific. Some viewers even joked it made them “want to sleep” mid-safety demo, and it’s probably not what you want in a safety video.

The new version, on the other hand, pumps up a more upbeat melody. It’s still easy on the ears, but it keeps you alert enough to actually pay attention to the important safety instructions.

Locations featured

When it comes to locations, opinions are somewhat balanced. The old video mostly featured popular tourist spots, like Haji Lane, Boat Quay, and Adventure Cove Waterpark, giving viewers that classic “Singapore postcard” feel.

The new video takes a different route by highlighting everyday corners of the city, including HDB void decks and neighbourhood parks, shining a light on the local life that most of us live or at least walk past every day.

So, which Singapore Airlines in-flight safety video do you prefer?

To be fair, it’s a tie in our books. The old one hits you right in the feels, while the new in-flight safety video makes you smile as it shows off our city in all its glory. Either way, next time you’re on board a Singapore Airlines flight, don’t be surprised if you spot 2 new faces gracing your screen.
