Locally-inspired Sims 4 buildings

Even with the Circuit Breaker and social distancing measures currently in place in Singapore, there’s still one way we can roam around iconic landmarks and buildings. From hotels to museums, these locally-inspired Sims 4 buildings will let you, or rather your Sim, explore Singapore virus-free. You could even make them your Sims’ permanent homes if you want!
The wonderfully creative Sims 4 community have created enough buildings in-game that you could fill up an entire world with Singapore-themed lots. If you’ve got an eye for architecture and building, construct your own virtual attraction and share it in the gallery too.

At the intersection between Joo Chiat and Koon Seng Road are the ever-colourful Peranakan Houses, a series of pastel terrace houses displaying prominent Peranakan architecture. The wooden windows and large gates have found their way into The Sims, still as vibrant as ever.

The 4 two-storey houses are separated by a thin wall and each has a front yard that could fit an entire car. The interior is empty, leaving room for you to decorate in a traditional, modern, minimalist or chic style – or one in each house if you choose.

Whenever you see a ranking of the most unique architectural designs in Singapore, you can bet that The Interlace makes the list. Stacking apartment buildings on top of one another in a zig-zag Jenga-like manner, this one-of-a-kind lot is as remarkable in-game as it is in real life.

While the actual interlace has 31 apartment blocks with over 1,000 units, the Sims version scales that down to 13 different rooms, all furnished with everything your Sim needs as if it were a mini studio apartment. At the centre of the complex, there’s a pool with an American Beech Tree in the middle for your Sims to take a dive.

Kampong Glam has always been a go-to hotspot for both tourists and residents alike with its Malay and Muslim heritage, the iconic and magnificent Sultan Mosque, quirky cafes and Instagrammable Haji Lane nearby. This in-game version is just as eye-catching – and comes complete with palm trees and street lights.
While the mosque is the focal point, the shophouses on either side are free for you to plan and decorate. As all the Sims gather and bustle around in this business lot, it’ll look just like the real thing.

Although museums are closed during the Circuit Breaker, you can still bring your Sim on a trip through the galleries at the Singapore Art Museum. With the statue of St John de la Salle, that’s on the actual real-life building, not available in-game, a “Premium Prima Ballerina” acts as the centrepiece instead.

The two levels are laden filled with paintings and sculptures and as your Sim admires the artworks, they might even get inspired and become a famous artist themselves. Here’s a pro tip, press Shift + Tab in-game to enter first-person view – it’ll be as if you’re on a virtual museum tour.

Staycations may be put on hold for the time being, but that doesn’t mean you can’t treat your Sim and their potential partner to a stay at Raffles Hotel. For the best view, we suggest you take the penthouses on the third floor. They come with “Queen-Sized Princess Cordelia’s Galleon Beds” with a level 10 rating on energy, discomfort relief and stress relief – ideal for some woohoo as well.

An expensive “Chievo Tiered Fountain” lies in the garden centre of this luxury hotel, surrounded by various lounges, a bar and an indoor pool, giving your Sims plenty of activities to do.

Few things are as iconic and striking in Singapore skyline like Marina Bay Sands. And for those of us who haven’t had the chance to enjoy the infinity pool of the hotel, get a glimpse of what it’s like through the eyes of your Sim.
The infinity pool at MBS is the largest in the world, and this virtual one similarly takes up almost one-fifth of the entire lot space. Aside from the palm trees and bright lounging areas, the deck has two flaming tiki bars that make it a perfect party destination. Get your Sim to plan an event and level up that mixology skill while you’re at it.

While it may not be instantly recognisable, the Singapore Former Command House on Bukit Timah played a major part in Singapore’s military history during World War II and has housed various important personnel. The General Officer Commanding of Malaya, former Singapore Speaker of Parliament Dr Yeoh Ghim Seng and former President Ong Teng Cheong have all lived within the premises.

The lot itself is a huge 50×40, meaning that you’ll have plenty of space to play with. The large rooms and halls are furnished with elegant bedrooms, kitchens as well as hobby rooms. You can train your Sim’s artistic abilities with the “Deluxe All-Season Easel” or woodworking table, or relax on the bright red “Captain Rodrigo De Pablo Couch” – with level 8 comfort we might add.

The national icon Gardens by the Bay is re-created in The Sims 4 with palm trees, bamboo trees, water lilies, lavender hedges and various bushes and flora. Bring your Sim here to unwind after work or employ it as a first-date location as you walk along the skywalk surrounded by supertrees.
The virtual tourist attraction even manages to have a mini glasshouse as well as multiple lily ponds to make it the perfect park for any Sims community.

Okay, this building is technically not a Singapore tourist attraction or iconic landmark, but it’s a place that’s dear to our hearts. Our colleague, Amanda Feng, re-created the TSL Office in The Sims 4 with our beloved workstations, the snack-filled pantry, filming studios and chill corner with a TV. The only major difference is that our desks are never this clean in real life.

Hone your cooking skills in the kitchen and invite other Sims over for a feast in the pantry. There are even beds in the area so even though it’s an office, you could live here as if it were your home.

The filming studios with pink and blue backdrops are also available if you want to film some episodes of Singaporeans Try, or should we say Sims Try. With the camera equipment and desktops at your disposal, your Sim could be a YouTuber, photographer or writer too!

Even though it’s in-game, it’s still nice to be able to re-create our experiences at these locally-inspired Sims 4 buildings. Besides, when else would you get the chance to have your household live at the grand Raffles Hotel or Former Command House. Once the social distancing measures are eased and the virus is gone, our first trip back to these iconic locations will surely be a memorable one.
