You Can Catch Local Films Like Kopitiam Days On The Big Screen At SFS Somerset This August

SFS Somerset Goes Local

If Anthony Chen’s We Are All Strangers, hitting screens on 20th August 2026, can’t come soon enough, then we’ve got a month’s worth of good stuff you’ll want to take note of. Happening at SFS Somerset, an indie screening venue at Orchard Cineleisure, is SFS Somerset Goes Local, and here’s what it’s all about.

What is SFS Somerset?

The SFS in SFS Somerset stands for The Singapore Film Society – Singapore’s oldest film society, and largest organiser of film festivals here. The non-profit has been around since 1958, championing cinema and bringing rare, diverse films from around the world to local screens.

It’s all too easy to watch a film and head home after, only to forget about the show and what it was all about.

If you’ve found yourself wondering why certain things happened the way they did in the film, or why some scenes were filmed the way they did, you’re in luck – some of the screenings come with director Q&A sessions after the show, so you can have your burning questions answered by the person who knows the film best.

As for the screenings that don’t come with director Q&A sessions, what you get instead are introductory speeches which will help set the stage for that show. Tickets for each movie screening are $15.

SFS members get $6 off

You’re in luck if you’re already an SFS member – you’ll get $6 off every SFS Somerset screening for SFS Somerset Goes Local, with the exception of We Are All Strangers. That screening is free for you.

All you have to do is sign up to be an SFS member at $49 for 3 months, or $139/year, which works out to be $11.58/month. You can enjoy concession rates if you’re a student, NSF, or above 55 years old.
