The party’s on this April with the return of the Singapore Sevens, AKA Singapore Rugby Sevens, on the first weekend of Q2 2025. Hitting the National Stadium from 5th-6th April 2025, the HSBC SVNS Singapore will be the penultimate tournament stop before the championship games in Los Angeles, USA.
If you’re in on the SVNS fever, look forward to a weekend of nonstop action on and off pitch for everyone in the fam – if you’re new, consider this your initiation into the biggest rugby 7’s tourney in the world.
No, the HSBC SVNS is not taking place at the beach, but they’ve brought the Beach Club experience pitch-side at the National Stadium. The iconic Beach Club, next to the warm-up pitch, will be where the party’s at all day, with non-stop hits from SVNS house DJs Raw and Rainbow, a nacho food truck, plus bar facilities.
P.S. Come in your fanciest fancy dress costumes, and we don’t mean black-tie fancy.
Don’t FOMO even if you don’t head down to the SVNS Beach Club, because there’s a whole lineup of performances that you can catch from your seat, or anywhere else in the stadium.
Think roaming circus acts, local cheerleading company CheerForce, and a Red Bull elite dance battle, plus Afro-Brazilian, dub, and reggae performances by Singaporean percussion group Wicked Aura, and jazz singer Alemay Fernandez.
Keep the little ones occupied with a dedicated kids zone, included in all ticket prices, for young attendees of the HSBC SVNS.
They can’t take part in the action on the pitch, but they won’t be left out, with sports stations including tag rugby, floorball, softball, basketball, and volleyball, where they can join in the fun.
Look out for meet-and-greets with the Rugby Ambassadors too, alongside other child-friendly hits such as face painting, airbrush tattoos, and a host of traditional Singaporean games in conjunction with SG60.
For the uninitiated, here’s a quick peek into what the Rugby Sevens are:
Seven-a-side rugby is a high-octane variant of the original 15-a-side game, involving 7 players a side, and 7- instead of 40-minute halves. It originated in Scotland back in the 1880s, but it was the legendary Hong Kong Sevens, which began in the 1970s, that took the game global.
Today, the Hong Kong Sevens, as well as the Singapore Sevens, are 2 of the current host cities on the HSBC SVNS circuit, alongside Dubai, Cape Town, Perth, Vancouver, and Los Angeles.
The 12 core teams that take part in each year’s tournament are picked based on their performance in the previous season, with both men’s and women’s teams competing. As core teams, they’re guaranteed a place throughout the season.
In 2019, the World Rugby Sevens Challenger was created as a second-tier competition, allowing teams in this league to compete for promotion to the first tier as core competing teams.
Fun fact: in the SVNS’ 25-year history, New Zealand, South Africa, and Fiji have placed top 6 every single year, though New Zealand has won the championship a whopping 14 times. The All Blacks have also racked up an impressive 69 leg titles on the Seven’s world circuit.
The 2023-24 season saw the Kenya and Uruguay men’s, and China women’s, teams promoted to the core league. The 2024-25 teams that you can expect to see at the HSBC SVNS Singapore are:
Men: Argentina, Australia, Fiji, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Kenya, New Zealand, South Africa, Spain, USA, and Uruguay
Women: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Fiji, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Japan, New Zealand, Spain, USA
You can expect the same heart-stopping, adrenaline-pumping fever at Singapore SVNS – condensed into an action-packed 2 days that everyone in the family can enjoy at the National Stadium.
Single day General Admission passes for adults are $50 each, while Reserved tickets are priced from $60. The respective weekend passes are $80, or from $105. General Admission passes for children aged 5 to 16 are $10 for one day, or $16.50 for the weekend pass.
