It is hard to miss Parkroyal on Pickering with the hotel’s gorgeous architecture. Think high ceilings lined with towering pillars beneath a building coloured in monochromatic tones, brightened with bursts of greenery. There are large floor to ceiling windows and a very zen-like interior design.
Situated in the heart of Chinatown, this relatively new hotel is also home to all day dining restaurant Lime, which serves up a diverse international buffet with local favorites. This open-concept restaurant is spacious and the mirrors lining the walls further add to its perception of space.
A highlight of Lime is their Sunday brunch which happens every Sunday from 12-3 pm. Diners can indulge in an international spread accompanied with free flow of beverages like house wines and Piper Heidsieck Champagne.
Cheese connoisseurs would swoon over Lime’s highlight of a 12 European Cheese Platter, accompanied with water crackers, grapes, dried fruits and nuts.
Part of their carved meats included this Herb Crusted Lamb rack, US Prime Rib, Roasted chicken and a whole slab of crackling Roasted Pork.
You can see how this restaurant takes pride in aesthetics, from an intricately displayed buffet line to this dish cooked ala-minute before serving. They have a couple of live cooking stations where you can see the chefs doing their thing behind the stoves serving up piping hot food like pastas, risottos and a pan-seared foie gras.
Their dessert picks includes a Marble Butter Cake, Green Tea crumble shooters which I enjoyed, Almond Frangipane Tart, Salted Caramel Cheesecake, 4 different flavors of smooth gelato with several toppings to choose from and many more.
If you’re a sucker for desserts, then you would definitely be swooning over Lime’s extensive dessert selection featuring a multitude of cakes. One highlight of this place would definitely be their Matcha Fondue which the restaurant places strategically at the entrance of the restaurant to greet customers. A lovely curtain of lime green streams down into a sea of bright green molten chocolate would definitely be the crowning glory when accompanied with their unique handmade Lime Marshmallows.
My favorites from this International buffet have to be their roasts, fresh seafood on ice and their Asian picks. The laksa which was prepared ala-minute was on point, not too spicy or cloying yet packed with ingredients in a thick coconut broth and accompanied with slippery smooth rice noodles.
Their green tea fondue was also an eye-opener with strong hints of matcha that matcha lovers would squeal over. The carnivorous in you would take to their Roasted Pork Belly which came in a crispy crackling top layer and a melt-in-your-mouth texture.
Note that the buffet here is priced at a premium to most Sunday buffets, so you’re really paying for the atmosphere and extensive variety of cuisines offered. The ambiance at Lime makes it ideal for intimate brunch sessions with close friends or your significant other.
