As the wise idiom goes, there’s always room for dessert. Undeniably true, especially at dessert cafe Queen of Treats that’s recently opened its doors in the quiet neighbourhood of Bedok North. This cafe stands out in a row of unassuming storefronts – bright splashes of pink, glowing neon lights, and marbled tabletops.
From homemade ice cream to savoury waffles, here’s everything you’ll be salivating over at Queen of Treats:
Queen of Treats has a range of homemade cakes, freshly-baked ice cream waffles, and ice cream milkshakes.
There’s a ready selection of homemade cakes but the flavour that immediately caught our eye? Their Earl Grey Lavender Cake. It’s frosted with a silky buttercream – aesthetic in its muted shade of pastel purple.
There’s a slight tinge of bergamot that comes through, complementing the lavender buttercream.
When you slice down, you’ll be pleased to find that the sponge is fluffy and light, but with generous layers of buttercream.
They also have other flavours like Pandan Kaya, Ferrero Rocher, and Red Velvet. Prices range between $6.50 to $7.50 for a slice.
We also tried their Waffles with Ice Cream ($12.40) where you can choose from flavours like Speculoos Cookie, Strawberry Cheesecake, and Simply Vanilla. As an avid sweet tooth, I’ve tried a whole lotta ice cream out there but this one is special. Although the ice cream melts rapidly, it has a velvety texture that rivals premium ice cream brands that charge double the price.
1 scoop of ice cream is priced at $3.90, 2 scoops for $6.90, and 3 scoops for $9.90. Add on a waffle base for $2.50.
Their Milkshakes come in flavours like Simply Vanilla and Chocoholic.
But of course, if you’re not up for tackling a full-sized dessert, you can take your ice cream in other ways too. Simply order up a drink: they have frothy milkshakes that are blended with their own homemade ice cream.
Queen of Treats also offers Affogato ($6.50) on their menu – a steal, considering that you’ll be pouring a shot of hot espresso over 2 scoops of Vanilla ice cream. It’s a simple concoction, but delicious in its medley of flavours.
But Queen of Treats isn’t just a place for the sweet tooth. Their menu also offers up a range of savoury dishes, with waffles topped with ingredients like bacon, egg mayo, and mushrooms.
Their Bacon & Eggs Waffles ($10.90) comes with the full works: it’s a hearty dish with crispy strips of bacon, fried egg, and even comes along with a side of mash and veggies.
Their Crispy Mid Wings ($10.90/6 pieces) were also divine in all their crispiness. Deep-fried, yes, but with crunchy batter that was certainly worth all the calories. For more savoury goodness, order up a side of Truffle Fries ($9.90) – it’s hard to resist the wafting scent of truffle oil.
Don’t wait for a cheat day when it comes to trying out Queen of Treat’s desserts – their homemade ice cream, cakes, and waffles are worth the trip down. Even though I live on the opposite side of the island, it’s their ice cream that’s responsible for my most recent midnight cravings.
But it’s not just their desserts that leave a lasting memory: their savoury waffles and chicken wings are equally as tempting. For all Easties out there: lucky you – Queen of Treats is sure to be a cafe that you’ll hit up regularly.
