Cycling can get pretty mundane on the same ol’ routes like East Coast Park and Bedok Reservoir. But this 18-19 November, a new route is opening right up – parts of Singapore’s largest expressways have been specially closed for the OCBC Cycle 2017, so get ready for a whole new biking experience.
Imagine riding through the streets like it’s your grandfather’s road, dressed in superhero shirts and surrounded by bubbles!
The best part is, you don’t have to be a pro biker. Even if your only biking experience consists of riding from home to the MRT station, this mass cycling event has something for you – and everyone from your 6-year-old brother to your 60-year-old ah mah.
So, don’t worry about not being able to keep up with the team. Whether you’re with friends, kids or colleagues, there are three cycling events to pick from, each with differing distances.

For those who want a long leisurely ride with family and friends, join The Sportive Ride (42km) or the The Straits Times Ride (23km). Both are non-competitive, so you can even slow down for a selfie – watch those double-taps roll in with backdrops like Gardens by the Bay, the Singapore Flyer and Marina Bay Sands.

As for parents with kids in tow, sign up for the Mighty Savers® Kids Ride or Mighty Savers® Family Ride!
If your kids are 2-5 years old, walk beside them for free as they conquer 100 metres at the Kids Ride. But if they’re a little older*, they can either go solo in the Mighty Savers® Kids Ride or have you tag along as part of the Mighty Savers® Family Ride – this time for a duration of 20-30 minutes.
*Maximum age capped at 12.

At the Mighty Savers® Kids and Mighty Savers® Family ride, there’ll be a bubble-filled section that’s sure to make the kids – and you – wheely excited. Child-friendly machines will churn out endless bubbles, so don’t be shy to cycle through and immerse yourself in a curtain of them!

Whether you belong to the Marvel or DC camp, unleash your inner Super Hero at The Straits Times Ride. Dig out that old cape last worn at a D&D function and come dressed as Batman or Superman, or don the free Super Hero tees given to you as part of the race pack.

Make your bike, helmet and sunglasses match too – we’re already thinking of decorating our bikes to look like the Batmobile.
Any extra effort will be duly rewarded, as the best look will have the winner walking – or riding – away with a Casio EXILIM EX-FR100 camera worth $629! All you’ve to do is snap a pic of your get-up, and hashtag #ocbccycle!

The part we’re all waiting for when signing up for such events: goodie bags.
All OCBC Cycle participants, you’ll receive an race pack consisting of a cycling bib, helmet sticker, bike tag, cycling jersey, NETS Flashpay Card with $2 and a musette bag,
Bonus: This year, the medal that riders take home can become a special collectible. If pieced together with medals from the next OCBC Cycle in 2018 and 2019, it’ll form a complete gear.
Sit in air-conditioned comfort as you check out hawker eats in the Volvo Makan Trail 2017!

The fun isn’t just limited to two days. At $6 per session, sign up for OCBC Cycle’s pre-events like the Cycle Cook-Off – a sports nutrition workshop, and the Volvo Makan Trail where you can go hawker stall-hopping in a Volvo!
As for cyclists looking to step up their fitness game, take part in the two-part Get Your Body Cycle-Ready workshop to prep yourself for the main event.
P.S. You’ll be giving back to society too – all proceeds are donated to OCBC’s charity partners.
Whether you’re a seasoned biker or just an amateur cyclist who wants to have fun, go ahead and jio a friend, family member or colleague to the OCBC Cycle 2017 for the ride of your life!
