Movie dates will never get old. And now that it’s no longer mandatory to wear masks in the theatre, we can enjoy the latest films in absolute comfort. For movie buffs, choices are aplenty as we’ve compiled a list of exciting new movies in 2023 that will be coming to theatres in Singapore.

So mark your calendar and grab your movie buddies – or a date – you wouldn’t wanna miss these upcoming blockbuster films.


1. Creed III



The reunion between 2 childhood friends does not always end happily ever after. In the latest instalment of this franchise about a heavyweight boxing champion and his legacy,
Creed III’s trailer shows a guilt-ridden energy between the main characters.

The dynamic in this movie is different from previous Creed films as it introduces an antagonist who is not only stronger than ever before, but also someone who is near and dear to the protagonist.

2. Scream VI

Ghostface is inviting everyone to play a game of “Guess Who’s the Killer?”, the 2023 edition. With a runtime of 123 minutes, Scream VI will be the longest movie in the franchise yet. 

Shifting the action from Woodsboro to New York City, Ghostface is about to contribute to the metropolis’ rising crime rate in more ways than one. Instead of the usual rom-com films set in the Big Apple, you’ll be signing up for a whole new level of brutality and fear.

3. Shazam! Fury of the Gods



For those unfamiliar with the franchise, the magic word “Shazam!” transforms not only young Billy Baston into an adult superhero, but gifts his entire family the same ability as well.

As the children are learning to juggle teenage life and superhero duties, the antagonists called Daughters of Atlas are not thrilled when they learn that these children have been given god-like powers. On top of all the action in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the sight of dragons and various mythical creatures in this sequel won’t disappoint.

4. John Wick: Chapter 4



After a 2-year delay where fans had to replay the previous movies on Netflix countless times, the wait is over.

As the assassin reveals a path to triumph over the High Table, he has to first face a new enemy which may possibly bring him several setbacks. Keep your eyes peeled as you get munching on your popcorn, as it seems like everyone ends up living unhappily ever after in John Wick: Chapter 4.

5. The Super Mario Bros. Movie

From Game Boy to Nintendo Switch, and now to the big screens. Renowned as Star-Lord in the MCU, you’ll see, or in this case hear, Chris Pratt with an Italian accent as he stars as Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Together with his brother, Luigi, find out if the plumber will successfully save Princess Peach after travelling through an underground labyrinth.

6. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

After binge-watching The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on Disney+, we’re so pumped to learn that this sequel will reach us soon. Get your tissues ready; with all the changes that have happened since the day Thanos snapped his fingers, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 may be the last time we see the group together.

7. Fast X



This may be bittersweet news to fans of
Fast & Furious. While we immerse ourselves in over-the-top car chases and action, we have to also keep in the back of our heads that this era is coming to a close. Racing to us this year is the first half of the last chapter of the saga. 

You can expect to see most of the original cast in Fast X, as well as Aquaman star Jason Momoa and Daniela Melchior from The Suicide Squad.

8. The Little Mermaid

Disney fans have been waiting for this. Finally, the live action adaptation of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. With the snippet of Halle Bailey’s rendition of “Part of Your World” from the trailer already sending goosebumps, we’re sure this movie will be mer-mazing.

9. Transformers: Rise of the Beast



Get ready to travel back in time to 1994 in
Transformers: Rise of the Beast. A sequel to Bumblebee, the 7th Transformers movie will bring you towards a 3-way conflict between different groups of Transformers.

This action-packed film takes place around the globe, including familiar landmarks such as Machu Picchu and New York City. Throughout all that, you’ll get to learn about each of the iconic giant robots.

10. The Flash

The Flash series has been running on our screens for almost a decade, and has finally made his way to the humongous screens in the theatres. Nicknamed the Scarlet Speedster, the superhero may have created a multiverse while travelling back in time in an attempt to prevent the murder of his mother.

11. Oppenheimer



Christopher Nolan’s
Oppenheimer shares the biography of the physicist who invented the atomic bomb. With Nolan’s reputation of directing exhilarating films, moviegoers will be treated to a thrilling cinematic experience with a star-studded cast like Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr – of Peaky Blinders and Iron Man fame, respectively.

12. Barbie

She’s a Barbie girl, but is she still in the Barbie world? We’ve heard about the titular character Barbie, being forced to leave Barbieland for being less than perfect. Every girl that grew up playing with the doll would probably want to hear about this OG Barbie story. And with Ryan Gosling casted as Ken… Somebody book me a ticket now!

13. The Marvels



The MCU is definitely growing. Having been introduced to Captain Marvel and Miss Marvel, it is no surprise that both of them will be starring in the film based on the hints from the title.

If that’s not enough to entice you, the daughter of Captain Marvel’s late best friend,  Monica Rambeau AKA Spectrum, will also be joining The Marvels. The trio will be on an adventure that was teased at the end of Wandavision.

14. The Nun 2



If you are hooked on
The Conjuring universe, especially since the birth of Annabelle, you’ll be thrilled to learn that the demonic nun, Valak, is back for The Nun 2. While investigating the murder of a priest in Romania, it seems like Sister Irene will be facing off against Valak once again.

15. Dune: Part Two

Picking up from where they left off in the last film, the journey continues for main character Paul Atreides as he seeks vengeance against those who destroyed some people who meant the world to him. If Dune: Part Two seems like too long of a wait since we are still at the beginning of the year, you could always indulge in spoilers by reading the novels.

Bonus: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

After a short hiatus – no thanks to Covid-19 – Marvel kicks off Phase 5 with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. This movie is a teaser to what’s to come in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including the introduction of a villain equivalent to Thanos – Kang the Conqueror.

Make sure you stay back for the usual 2 post-credit scenes as we hear there’ll be some shocking teasers.
