5 Gourmet Mi Sedaap Recipes To Impress Your Friends On A Budget In This Economy

Gourmet recipes to enjoy Mi Sedaap on a budget

We’re 3 months into the year of 9% GST, and even though 2024’s Budget meant handouts for everyone, we get it: it’s time to tighten those purse strings. It doesn’t mean you have to stop jio-ing your friends over to hang out. In fact, there’s no time like the present to impress them with atas upgrades to budget foods, like instant noodles, so you can still chill in style.

With that, here are 5 gourmet instant noodle recipes you can put on your kitchen repertoire that’ll put the sedap (delicious) in Mi Sedaap.

1. Mi Sedaap grazing board

It’s not rocket science to put this grazing board together, but we guarantee it will still get you all the oohs and ahhs you could possibly want. There’s no complicated process and no rules: you’re only bound by the limits of your imagination. Go crazy with the accompaniments.

Ingredients:

  • 2 packets Mi Sedaap Fried Instant Noodles – Goreng Asli (Original)
  • 2 packets Mi Sedaap Fried Instant Noodles – Ayam Krispi (Crispy Chicken)
  • 2 packets Mi Sedaap Fried Instant Noodles – Korean Spicy Chicken
  • Chicken franks
  • Chicken nuggets
  • Luncheon meat
  • Eggs
  • Fried dumplings
  • Ham
  • Spring rolls
  • Brie
  • Crabsticks
  • Optional: lettuce leaves, sliced chilli, coriander

Mi Sedaap is available in multiple flavours, so your grazing board is extra fun for parties.

Instructions:

  1. Cook everything according to package instructions.
  2. Arrange on a clean board.

2. Korean fried seaweed rolls

Just in time for your next K-drama hangout, this take on 김말이 (gimmari) replaces the sweet potato noodles with your favourite Mi Sedaap, so you get all the feels, but with a mi goreng kick. Mix in some gochujang with mayonnaise and a touch of sesame oil for that bougie little stroke of sauce we have on our plate.

Ingredients:

  • 2 packets Mi Sedaap Fried Instant Noodles – Goreng Asli (Original)
  • 1 carrot, finely chopped
  • 2 stalks of chives, finely chopped
  • Korean seaweed paper
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp potato starch
  • 2 tbsp plain flour
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of baking soda
  • 3 tbsp water
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Sesame seeds

Learn from our mistake, and don’t be too greedy with the amount of noodles in each roll.

Instructions:

  1. Cook Mi Sedaap according to package instructions. Mix in carrot and chives, then allow to stand for 10 minutes.
  2. Combine egg, potato starch, flour, salt and baking soda in a mixing bowl, and whisk till smooth.
  3. Cut each piece of seaweed into half lengthwise. Lay the noodles on the bottom ½ of the seaweed, then roll it up. Slice into half.
  4. Heat up the oil in a deep pan till a wooden chopstick starts bubbling when dipped into the oil.
  5. Dip each roll into the prepared batter, then lower into the oil. Fry 1-2 minutes till light brown. Remove from oil and strain.
  6. Fry all the rolls a second time, for 3-4 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and strain.
  7. Slice, sprinkle sesame seeds, and serve.

3. Garlic chilli oil noodles

You’ve probably seen the viral garlic chilli oil noodles all over social media, but did you know that it makes Mi Sedaap taste, shockingly, even better? It’s even more convenient if you already have chopped garlic in your fridge, so use that if you have it. This Chinese spin on the dish is such a quick fix, it can be ready in less than 5 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 1 packet Mi Sedaap Fried Instant Noodles – Goreng Asli (Original)
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • Green parts of 1 scallion stalk, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp chilli flakes
  • ½ tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 tbsp black vinegar
  • ½ tbsp light soya sauce
  • 2 tbsp neutral-flavoured oil
  • Optional: coriander

It’s most satisfying to hear the sizzle of hot oil as it hits the ingredients for this sauce.

Instructions:

  1. Boil noodles according to package instructions. Strain, and reserve 2 tbsp of noodle water.
  2. In a bowl, combine garlic, scallions, chilli flakes, sugar, sesame seeds, vinegar, soya sauce, and the noodle seasonings from the packet.
  3. Heat up the oil in a small saucepan till very hot.
  4. Pour hot oil over seasonings, mix, then toss with noodles. Add reserved noodle water if necessary.
  5. Garnish with coriander and more sesame seeds as desired.

4. Breadless Philly cheesesteak

Make your very own ramen burger at home, and jazz it up with beef, caramelised onions and cheese. It’s the ultimate zhng-up to steak night, and you don’t have to go hunting for the perfect butter rolls. Oozing cheese, tender, juicy steak, and smoky-sweet onions with extra crisp noodle buns: what better combo could you ask for?

Ingredients:

  • 2 packets Mi Sedaap Fried Instant Noodles – Goreng Asli (Original)
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • Oil
  • 3 onions, finely diced
  • 300g ribeye steak, in 3cm slices
  • 3 slices Provolone, or any cheese as desired
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Optional: mayonnaise

Placing the noodle bun onto the cheese in the pan allows it to melt and meld together better.

Instructions:

  1. Place beef in the freezer for approximately 30 minutes before slicing against the grain.
  2. Boil noodles for 1 minute less than instructed on the package.
  3. Thoroughly drain noodles, then mix in seasoning sachets and eggs till evenly coated.
  4. Divide noodles into desired patties, using cling wrap and ramekins of your choice.
  5. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or 15 minutes in the freezer.
  6. Add oil to about 0.5cm deep in a pan and fry noodle patties till golden brown and crispy. Strain and set aside.
  7. Lightly season beef with salt and pepper. Heat 2 tbsp of oil and sear the beef for 2 minutes, and set aside.
  8. Add 1 tbsp oil if necessary, and fry onions on low heat till caramelised, about 10 minutes.
  9. Return beef to pan and mix, then divide into equal piles, and top with Provolone.
  10. Place noodle patties on the cheese, allow to heat for 1 minute, then carefully flip onto a plate. Top with mayonnaise if desired, then another noodle patty. Serve.

5. Instant noodle cordon bleu

The true showstopper in this line-up of recipes is this Mi Sedaap cordon bleu with its cheese fest of a centre that flows out as you cut into it. Let it rest for several minutes after you’ve taken it out of the hot oil; if you’re not serving it yet, pop the roulade into a hot oven to keep it warm and melty.

Ingredients:

  • 2 packets Mi Sedaap Fried Instant Noodles – Goreng Asli (Original), finely crushed
  • 1 boneless, skinless chicken breast
  • 100g shredded cheese
  • 4 slices ham
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • Oil
  • Optional: parsley, salad greens

Wrapping it tightly and allowing it to chill in the fridge will help to ensure the roulade keeps its shape.

Instructions:

  1. Lay chicken breast between parchment, and pound till 1cm thick.
  2. Marinade chicken breast with Mi Sedaap seasoning sachets.
  3. Lay out chicken breast on a large piece of cling wrap, then layer evenly with ham and cheese.
  4. Roll, and tightly twist the ends of the cling wrap. Chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Unwrap the chicken roulade, dredge evenly in flour, then dip it in the beaten eggs. Roll in crushed noodles till evenly coated.
  6. Heat oil in a saucepan till a wooden chopstick bubbles when inserted. Fry the cordon bleu for approximately 5 minutes on each side, or till nicely golden brown.
  7. Garnish with chopped parsley, and serve with salad greens.
