When you are yearning for the opportunity to wake up to nature but ‘roughing it’ is just not what you have in mind, go glamping! It sounds ridiculous to some, spectacular to others, but it’s all the rage.
This growing travel trend, essentially glamourous camping, grants you amenities and resort-like services more advanced from normal camping. So, don’t worry about equipping yourself with expensive camping gear because there’s plenty of opportunities to experience the great outdoors without sacrificing luxury.
Sailor’s Rest redefines the Malaysian camping experience by proving you don’t wake up with backaches. It’s a getaway outside Pahang, within Janda Baik’s lush greenery. Think spacious tents (some capable of accommodating a group of 5), cushy mattresses with hotel quality bedding, hot & cold shower units and ample toilet facilities.

Find peace and quiet out in the Malaysian countryside and stay at Tanah Aina Fahad in Raub for the perfect weekend getaway. A scenic drive through villages leads to the glamping site nestled deep within the rainforest on an 8-acre plot. The cool, fresh air and soothing sound of water from a nearby waterfall set the tone for the trip.
Whether you’re bunking with a group of friends or having a uniquely romantic escape with your significant other, this place will indulge you. You can pamper yourself but still enjoy being situated outdoors by staying in the king tent which is, funnily enough, fit for a king. Disclaimer: It has come to our attention Canopy Tribes has received a lot of negative reviews, so visit at your own risk.
Just 5 minutes from Kota Tinggi’s popular waterfall area, the Canopy Tribes camp site has you surrounded by greenery and embracing outdoor/country living.
There are BBQ pits available and even a campfire pit (booking required) to make the most of the outdoor experience. Strategically located nearby Legoland and the Johor Premium Outlets, you can also indulge in the joys of modern life AKA ‘cheating’.
Canopy Tribes is a level up from regular camping but we recommend optimising comfort during your stay by bringing your own towels (useful for trips to the waterfall) and extra blankets for the cool nights.

Keep in mind that you’re at the seaside so there are plenty of watersports activities available.

Another one from Janda Baik’s lush greenery in Pahang, Saujana Janda Baik Homestay is what its name suggests – a glamping trip for the family. The homestay’s garden is lush while the lake that accompanies the cabin is calm and shallow enough for a relaxing stroll. In contrast, the expansive backyard will convince introverts to run about and the extroverts sedated in the treehouse.
Better yet, the nights spent at the homestay will sure be full of wonder. The place gets unbelievably dark at night (a kind of darkness city kids can’t comprehend) so the stars and the moon will lead a light show. Bring your telescope and a keen eye to hunt for elusive shooting stars.

As Malaysians, we are known for being the adventurous type, especially with Mt. Kinabalu being one of the gems in our backyard. Up on the mountain, lies the triangular Mt. Kinabalu Holiday Camp accommodation that rests stilted above the marshes.

For the bold Malaysian that loves the outdoors, Mt. Kinabalu ranks high on the to-do list so take the chance to visit these huts. No electricity within the vicinity, but it doesn’t mean you’ll be left digitally sore with nothing to do. Up in that height, the scenery is of beautiful mountains and clear skies – you won’t stop being mesmerised.

Let’s be real – not everyone is made for camping. Some of us freak out about getting dirty, being exposed to the elements, creepy crawlies and the lack of access to your own toilet. Instead, experience the finer side by glamping. There’s no tent to pitch or sleeping bag to unroll and in most cases, your meals are provided for!
Quality doesn’t always have to come with a hefty price tag.
No need to head to Japan or Korea, China has pretty blooms too 🌸
