Ever since Jurong Lake Gardens opened, it’s been hailed as one of the most photogenic spots of Singapore’s far-flung West. It’s filled with vast grasslands, scenic boardwalks, and cycling paths, but come 6th July 2019, there’s another highlight to look forward to – the M3 Youth Festival.

From free kayaking sessions to coffee appreciation workshops, the Festival will bring together young people from all backgrounds. It doesn’t matter what your religion or culture is – it’ll be a fun Saturday out with free snacks and activities involved. Here are 5 free activities you can look forward to at the Festival:

1. Try water sports for free

Dragon boating, pedal boating, and kayaking

Instead of spending your weekends watching Netflix, head down to the M3 Youth Festival to enjoy a variety of water sports – all for free. Whether it’s dragon boating or pedal boating, PAssion WaVE @ Jurong Lake Gardens offers scenic views all around, with Chinese pagodas rising regally in the background.

There’ll also be a HADO sports competition, where you can battle it out with games like AR dodgeball.

Where: PAssionWaVe @ Jurong Lake Gardens, Lakeside Field, and Wave Plaza.

2. Enjoy live busking performances

Sonia Asyira, Rico Setiabudi, & Among Four

The Festival doesn’t disappoint one bit when it comes to catchy tunes. With Sound & Rhythm, a platform for fledgling performers to show off their skills, you’ll be gently swaying along with the beats. Expect performances from the likes of singer-songwriters Sonia Asyira and Rico Setiabudi and local bands like Among Four.

Where: Wave Plaza

3. Feast on snacks and halal dishes

Chilli beef nachos, twister fries, & beef noodles

Your stomach’s bound to start growling ravenously by mid-day – thankfully, there’s an array of food booths to choose from with savoury dishes like Sofnade’s Meatballs in a bucket (from $5) and Beef Up’s Chicken Cutlet (from $4).

You can also look forward to Chilli Cheese Nachos (from $4), Twister Fries (from $5), and Beef Noodles (from $4). There’s also a variety of sweet treats, like Yuzu Ice Cream and Fruit Popsicles. All booths are halal and most of them are Muslim-owned too.

Look out for free snacks* too at Snacks & Le Park  – a lepak corner where we can load up on a ready supply of ice cream, popcorn, and cotton candy.

*While stocks last.

Where: Wave Plaza

4. Join free craft workshops

Art jamming, coffee appreciation, and mixology session

Art jamming sessions and coffee appreciation classes don’t come cheap but it’s all free entry over at the M3 Youth Festival. With these craft workshops, you’ll be learning a whole lotta new skills – everything from DIY leather lanyard-making to refining your tastebuds through a mixologist sesh. You can also get a trim from pop-up stall Bodeiga Barbershop.

Head down early though since it’s on a first-come, first-served basis and classes are likely to fill up quickly.

5. Give back with Kayak For A Cause

The Festival is also running Kayak For A Cause, a way to give back to the community by kayaking as many laps as possible. While your muscles might ache with each paddle, the muscle burn is all worth it since there’ll be a sum of money donated with each completed lap.

All money will be donated to Club HEAL, a local welfare organisation which supports those with mental illnesses.

M3 Youth Festival at Jurong Lake Gardens

Those bored of their weekend routines need not despair – the M3 Youth Festival at Jurong Lake Gardens has plenty for you to try.

It’s a whole-day event on Saturday, 6th July 2019, where you can look forward to a myriad of free activities. From swaying along to live performances to joining in an art jamming sesh, there are plenty of opportunities where you can meet other young people from all walks of life.

The Festival is a thoughtful collab between 3 organisations – PA MESRA, Muis, and Yayasan Mendaki – to celebrate how we all have different interests. Whether you’re a foodie or sports junkie, there’s bound to be an activity you’ll thoroughly enjoy at the M3 Youth Festival.
