Singaporeans like to sleep late. That’s a known fact. If we didn’t, the 24 hour behemoth Mustafa would have folded within its first two weeks. Prata shops would uniformly close at 10pm daily, and we would see a drastic drop in motorcycle deliverymen employment.
Nonetheless, there seems to be a dearth in our supper culture. After way too many tau huay and McDonald’s sessions, all we really want is to jazz it up a little, while enjoying the unique opportunity to have brunch for supper. After all, McDonald’s only starts serving breakfast at 4am, and having to wait 4 hours for food is just way too long. Even if it’s for an Egg McMuffin.
If you share the common belief that foods designed for the first meal can and should be eaten three or more times a day, check out these 14 cafes that stay open till at least midnight so you can grab a morning nosh even at the eleventh hour.

Oozing with laidback vibes, Lola Cafe’s brunch menu speaks the comfort vernacular that we crave. We suggest the Breakfast Butter Croissant ($15) – fluffy scrambled eggs, ham, honey bacon and mayo topped with garden salad and sandwiched between a buttery, flaky croissant.
This may be an all-night breakfast guide, but you simply cannot leave Lola’s without giving their Honey Paprika Crispy Wings ($10) a try. Trust when I say 4 Fingers ain’t got nothing on them. #noshade.
Fun Fact: The frames laced on the walls at Lola’s were painstakingly pinned up by the owners themselves when contractors told them it was impossible to be done.

Despite its brunch menu, the main draw here is ultimately their baked goods – and cake for supper is always a great idea.

A self-made abbreviation for ‘Laugh it out’, Laffio was conceived as an incubator for great moments. And it comes through in their food. Take the Laffio’s Big Brunch ($22) for instance – smoked salmon, beef fillet, bacon, toast, eggs, criss-cut fries, and mix of greens served right on a tray cause why even make the futile attempt to fit all of that on a plate.
On the drinks front, Laffio offers patrons a range of booze and non-alcoholic options, now tell me how you can’t be all smiles.

What hits you first when stepping foot into Gemmills is unmistakably its homeliness, from its humble decor to mismatched furniture. What’s even lovelier is its meek entrance by the alleyway, making it seem as if you stumbled upon a fairies’ hideout.
The menu reads well – a bountiful medley of baked goods and artisanal coffee and tea. Served on dainty silverware, we won’t be surprised if this becomes your favourite hangout spot.

If you wanted, you could have chicken and waffles anywhere, but we all know that not all avian and pastry combinations are created equal. American-Southern cuisine is BIG on flavours, and if anyone knows how to do chick-and-waffles right, count on the folks at The Beast. Soaked in a 24-hour brine, the crispy yet juicy chicken fillet is slapped on a thick slice of waffle before anointed with a drizzling of bourbon maple butter sauce.
As far as we’re concerned, this is how soul food tastes like.

Before we get on about the food, everything about Nook & Cranny’s visual aesthetics screams minimalist heaven. Muji-Inspired wooden chairs and marble printed tables, we particularly love the white square tiles plastered across the counter that’s reminiscent of houses built in our ah ma’s generation.
They have to food to match for it too. The usual suspects like Eggs Benedict and Salmon Florentine aside, concoctions like the Miso Roasted Pork ($16.50) and Japanese Beef Stew ($18.50) are highly raved.
