10 Jobs You Will Proudly Declare On Social Media

Jobs that are actually fun

For most Singaporean students, the idea of a holiday conjures images of adventuring in a foreign land – at the sad expense of one’s own finances *tears up*. Students systematically block out term breaks by taking up jobs to save up, only to realise how drudgy work can be.

I’m kidding – jobs don’t have to be grey and unappealing. Jobs can be fun. In fact, some occupations are fun enough to dedicate a photo on instagram – if you know where to find it.

1. Popcorn Specialist at Garrett’s

As someone who’ve worked behind box offices baking popcorn all day long, I can vouch for how fun this is! The only work hazard here is tabao-ing the aroma of sweet caramel home, after a six-hour shift at Garrett’s. As a Popcorn Specialist at Garrett’s, your role is to ensure that customers get a healthy dose of their favourite popcorn flavours like CheeseCorn and CaramelCrisp.

2. Playground Service Officer

The job description requires you to interact with kids and their parents, ensuring that they leave the indoor playground happy. Being surrounded by small humans can be daunting at first, but with a little bit of time, shifts at Playolah will be filled with laughter. Kids’ energy are infectious!

On the other hand, those experienced in caring for toddlers or infants will find the job exciting. It’s the privilege of seeing kids happy that makes your job worthwhile. You might even feel snuggly inside when you meet kids that come back to the playground!

3. Amusement Crew

While #2 is an indoor toys playground, #3 scales it up with a whole construction site, complete with realistic machinery for kids to operate. The construction-themed rides may be meant for nurturing hand-eye coordination for kids, but even adults have fun while guiding their child. Being able to put the smiles on the faces of a whole family works two ways – whatever happiness you bring to the family ultimately converts into job satisfaction.

As an amusement crew, you’ll be a part of a fun working environment, guiding both kids and parents safely around the yard. Participants are already wide-eyed from exploring the construction site so all you’ll need to do is to inject some fun into the experience!

4. Manicurist

While most of us can competently self-manicure, we’ve never put the skill to the test. You’ll be surprised by how much wiser and more creative you’ll become at manicuring after this job. With the knowledge, you could help friends and families with thoughts of a manicure makeover!

For those looking to ride along the beauty industry’s wave, this is the best starting point.

5. Star Guide

Source

No, a Star Guide’s role is unrelated to astronomy and you’ll not be launched into space. Star in this case refers to performers and guests on Resort World Sentosa’s set, which you will responsible for. Imagine shaking hands with the cast of The Lion King Musical (if they ever come back) or the characters from Universal Studios Singapore.

As a Star Guide, you gain unrestricted access to the scenes behind whatever RWS visitors are offered. You’ll be a part of the magic that happens in Resort World Sentosa – you can’t ask for much more of a job!

6. Costume Technician

Source

Back in tertiary, I had to customise many costumes for camps, sewn from whatever clothes I had in my wardrobe. Never won any ‘Best Costume’ awards for them, but I loved the customising process. If you’re like me, then your creativity, painting and sewing skills, and intuition belong in Resort World Sentosa.

Handling costumes and props in an entertainment set of such a grand scale can be frightening, especially when a costume can cost more than $1,000. But here’s the bright side: the role is confidence-boosting. Besides, a Costume Technician’s job is a stepping stone for something greater – like working for movie sets.

7. Usher (Singapore Sports Hub)

A sports complex as massive as Singapore Sports Hub is a complicated network of venues, with everyone scrambling to get from one place to the next. As an usher with an intuitive knowledge of the ground, you’re a shepherd to the visitors, aiding them when they are lost – a thankless job, but one that helps make events successful.

You’re also likely able to enter most premises while concerts are ongoing. While attendees have their eyes locked on the main event, you’ll be able to enjoy the sights and sounds behind-the-scenes with colleagues that you’ll befriend. Periodically, you’ll even gain backstage access to meet celebrities or sports personalities!

8. Part-Time Designer

Source

Design jobs are few and those hiring require years of experience in the field. Thus, it’s difficult for design students to find work during the holidays that relates to their strengths. Which is why many turn to freelancing.

A Part-Time Designer role won’t require in-depth design knowledge as it involves simple graphic editing like cropping, enhancing and captioning. Those with extensive design backgrounds will benefit by showcasing their talents and impressing their bosses, while those who don’t have a chance here to learn through experience.

9. Brand Representative (The Golden Duck)

Salted egg flavoured food will never die and I can vouch for it. Recently, my palate was expanded after munching on salted egg chips and I am now a self-professed salted egg fanatic.

As a brand representative of The Golden Duck, you’ll be selling their products, comprising of the Signature Salted Egg Yolk Fish Skin and Signature Salted Egg Yolk Potato Crisps. Born out of Taiwan’s knack for innovating food, the recipe is finally at our shores, trending alongside the famous Chun Chui He milk tea.

So here’s your chance to be a part of the food trend. If you’re just as insane about salted egg chips as I am, you’ll find that spreading its awareness is rewarding!
