With the haze still lingering in Singapore, outdoor playgrounds might not be a parent’s first choice for a day out with the kids. But keeping the kids entertained indoors doesn’t necessarily mean forking out money for pricey indoor playgrounds.
Tucked away at the Singapore Flyer is a lesser-known free indoor padded play area where kiddos can have some fun while parents take a breather. Here’s what to know before bringing your kids down.
Though small and simple at a glance, the play area features padded walls and flooring, along with mini slides and simple climbing elements for little ones to explore. With soft surfaces placed throughout the space, parents can have some peace of mind as their kiddos crawl, climb, and play.
While the play space is officially designed for children aged 2 to 8 years old, we noticed that the play structures and wall padding are relatively low to the ground, making them better suited for younger tots who are still finding their feet.
Older kids within the recommended age range are welcome too, though they might find the equipment a little too simple for their liking. If you’ve got older kids in tow, we suggest packing a few of their favourite toys to keep them entertained in case they get bored of the simple play equipment.
The playroom itself is bright, clean, and well-maintained, making it an inviting space for little ones to have fun. During our visit, we even spotted a cleaner wrapping up a routine cleaning session, so parents can be assured that the space is regularly maintained.
There’s also a designated waiting area with a couch for parents to sit back while keeping an eye on their kids, along with shoe racks to keep footwear neatly organised before entering the play area.
Behind a partition in the playroom, you’ll also find a simple nursing room that doubles as a changing room for parents with babies. While small and basic, it’s equipped with a couch and changing station, enough for those whose babies need a quick fix.
To ensure that the playroom doesn’t get too crowded, only 10 people are allowed inside at any one time, including parents and guardians. Each play session is also limited to 30 minutes, so while your kids might not be able to spend an entire afternoon here, it’s still a convenient spot for a quick play session to help them burn off energy without spending a cent.
Plus, if you are already exploring the Marina Bay area, this is a good pit stop for both parents and kids.
Hop on the train via the Circle Line or Downtown Line to Promenade MRT Station and leave via Exit A. From there, it’s approximately an 8-minute walk to Singapore Flyer.
If you’re driving, there’s also a multi-storey car park on-site, with parking charged at $2.50/hour or part thereof during the day.
Once you’re at the main entrance or drop-off point of the Singapore Flyer, simply walk straight past the open-air cafe and turn left to find the play area, located at #01-05.
It’s open daily from 10am to 10pm, so besides giving the kids a chance to expend their energy reserves, it’ll also give you some time to relax and beat the heat in an air-conditioned room.
And sure, it might not have the ball pits and obstacle courses of bigger playgrounds, but for young kids that can be entertained by simple mini slides and a short balance beam, it’s a wallet-friendly option that gets the job done.
