We know it’s hard to accept that the end of the EOY holidays means we’re slowly easing back into work. Luckily, there’s no need to wait a full 12 months if your favourite holiday is Christmas, as there’s an Ice Cafe in Penang that celebrates the festive season all year round; so all you gotta do is take advantage of the 2025 long weekends and book yourself a flight to Penang ASAP.
The current exchange rate is RM1 = ~S$0.30 as of 9th January 2025.
The Ice Cafe is located in George Town, Penang. It’s a 33-minute drive from the Penang International Airport, and taking a Grab will set you back around RM22 (~S$6.70).
To get to Penang, hop on a 1.5-hour direct flight via Scoot with prices from S$104. If you’re looking for a different adventure, you can also opt to hop on the KTMB train ride for less than S$50/pax.
Penang’s usually pretty sunny, so the Ice Cafe is the perfect place to escape the afternoon heat. Step inside and you’ll feel like you’ve walked straight into Santa’s house, with the interior covered in icy and snow-themed decorations.
The cafe’s temperature is maintained around 15°C with the air conditioning at full blast, so if you’re worried about the cold, make sure to bring a sweater along.

Snap some shots beside a life-sized igloo and pretend you’re living the life of an Eskimo for the day.
To amp up the wintery, North Pole vibes, the cafe is decked out with bigger-than-life snowman and polar bear decorations scattered throughout.

The cafe is also where you can take a quick dip in an ‘ice bath’. Fret not; the ice cubes are just for effect, so there’s no need to dive into freezing temperatures to snag a cool picture.
No cafe visit is complete without indulging in a sweet treat or two, and the Ice Cafe has a tempting selection of desserts to satisfy your cravings. Some popular options are the Mango Ice Cream (RM39, ~S$11.80) with generous chunks of sweet juicy mango, the Waffle Ice Cream (RM29, ~S$8.80), and the adorable Buddy Snowman Ice Cream for just RM9 (~S$2.70).
Bingsu was also recently added to the menu, and you can enjoy them in classic flavours like Oreo and Injeolmi, along with special creations like the Malaysian-inspired Cendol.
There are also hot and cold drink options if you aren’t one for desserts, so grab a cuppa or hot chocolate to warm up after the chill.
You’re bound to visit George Town when you’re in Penang, so make a trip to the Ice Cafe for a mid-day break with some refreshing desserts. It’s also conveniently located next to Magic World Penang, a small-scale theme park packed with magic tricks and optical illusions – the perfect addition to your Penang itinerary.
