A stalwart in the local bar scene, anyone who has set foot in a bar in Singapore would have knocked a pint or two back at one of Harry’s more than 20 outlets around the island. Even the most ardent patron of Harry’s, might not know their best kept secret – the main meals are probably the best part of the menu they haven’t tried.
With the reopening of their Marina Bay Link Mall outlet, Harry’s boasts a contemporary new look. We tried their updated menu which included a new range of finger food and main dishes.
The first of the Small Plates we tried was the Love me Tandoori ($18 for 6 pieces), which was soft and juicy, served with mint yogurt by the side. Chicken skewers marinated in a tandoori blend, the tandoori will go well with a pint or two.
Harry’s Wingmen ($8 for 4 pieces, $11 for 6 pieces) is a Harry’s signature dish, prepared with a secret recipe of spices and deep fried to perfection. Every bite was absolutely sinful, but these wings are certainly to-die-for!
Served in plates of 3, the Pulled Pork Sandwiches ($8) were a little underwhelming, although the BBQ sauce drizzle adds a little zest to it. Good for a quick bite, if you’re a little peckish.
The only dish I tried from the Platter section of the menu was the Mushrooms & Truffle Oil Flatbread ($20). Considering I’m no fan of mushrooms, I was pretty surprised to find it palatable. Cheese is used as the base, giving it a rounded flavour.
The Curried Lamb Shank ($29) was easily the most expensive item we had, but the portion more than justifies the price. The lamb was tender and served cut. This is a must-try for lamb shank lovers, with the lamb shank having been marinated in aromatic curried spices, making every bite an explosion of flavour.
I really enjoyed the Prawn Star Pasta ($19), with Japanese seaweed providing an umami taste to the spaghettini (a thinner form of spaghetti). The spaghettini was a little tough though, so it might not be to everybody’s liking.
The desserts were the highlight of the night, with both of them being absolutely delightful. The Apple & Pear Crumble ($15) was served with vanilla bean ice cream, and unlike most iterations of the same name, actually has more fruit than crumble, which was a pleasant surprise.
They say to always save the best for last, and in this case that is certainly true of the Black Forest Sundae ($16). Every part of “chocolate and vanilla ice cream with freshly baked brownie bits” just screams “eat me please!”. It helped that the dark cherries aren’t the extra sweet ones that are commonly found in desserts – they actually tasted nice!
The food served at Harry’s is much better than I’d expect from bar fare, and if you had stayed away from ordering “proper” food from Harry’s because you had the same prejudice as me, I would highly recommend dropping by for a simple meal or two.
Culinary Director Daniel Sia regularly makes his rounds across all of Harry’s more than 20 outlets around Singapore, to ensure that the quality of food served is constant. So if you enjoy the food served at Harry’s at Marina Bay Link Mall, you can be sure the same standards are applied across the island!
Contrary to what you might think, Harry’s at Marina Bay Link Mall isn’t really at Marina Bay Link Mall. Instead, it’s at the Marina Bay Financial Centre’s Ground Plaza facing MBS. It’s perhaps easiest found by taking a train to Bayfront MRT, looking for a friendly face, and asking for directions!
