We’re spoiled when it comes to nature spots in Singapore. Here’s yet another place for birdwatchers, nature enthusiasts, and photographers to add to their bucket lists – Hampstead Wetlands Park.
Nestled within Seletar Aerospace Park, it stars a water lily lake that’s a hotspot amongst birds and little creatures. Read on to find out more about this nature haven, an escape from the concrete jungle we call Singapore.
First of all, this 3-hectare park is home to a variety of habitats including wetlands, grasslands, and secondary forests – thus serving as the habitats of a wide range of flora and fauna.

However, its highlight remains the Water Lily Lake. It’s a sanctuary for a plethora of waterbirds including bee-eaters, egrets, and kingfishers. Ideally, come in the early morning when the birds are most active, but if you can’t wake up to the chirps of uwu birds, arriving in the late afternoon will still suffice.

Don’t forget to bring your binoculars and camera. Lucky birdwatchers may even catch a glimpse of a buffy fish owl or two.

As Hampstead Wetlands Park is located right beside Seletar Airport, there are no tall buildings on site, preserving its original forestry. The best place to peer across the lake’s horizon is from a platform tucked away from the main boardwalk – you can view the northern part of the lake from here.

Those up for a light workout can head for the 3.5km-long hiking trail that winds through the wetlands and forests, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The trail is relatively easy and suitable for hikers of all levels, but sturdy footwear is recommended as there are some uneven and muddy sections.
After a day of hiking, you‘d surely have worked up an appetite. The park offers several designated picnic areas, complete with tables and benches, where you can lay out a spread and enjoy the scenic views. Bring your own food and drinks, or grab some snacks from Seletar Mall, which is a 20-minute ride via Bus 102, before heading over to the park.

Alternatively, check out The Oval located just a 2-minute walk from the park. Featuring a series of colonial bungalows that were once the property of the British Military, The Oval’s home to a variety of aesthetic cafes and restaurants such as the Chow Cute Cafe – perfect for a little pick-me-up.

There’s also this plane-themed playground – very in line with the aerospace theme indeed. Kids of all ages can have their fill of fun here. From swings and a life-sized board game to a smaller slide made just for toddlers, the playground will provide lots of fun for the little ones. It’s the perfect opportunity for mummies and daddies to sneak in a breather after entertaining them all afternoon.

If you still don’t know which cafe to pick after touring the area, we’ve got your back with Wheeler’s Estate. With minimalistic and clean interiors, it’s no wonder this place is a hit amongst Instagrammers. Their Sourdough & Shrooms (from $25) as well as Pork Tomahawk (from $188/1.3kg) remains a fan favourite. If you prefer to chill over a cuppa, a Cappuccino (from $6) is always an option.
Those planning to visit on a weekend afternoon, keep an eye out for their 1-for-1 Les Sardines Rose and Bottega Prosecco that’s available between 2pm-5pm.
As the concrete jungle continues to expand, it’s refreshing to find a green oasis tucked away in the heart of Seletar. With its lush greenery, scenic views, and peaceful atmosphere, it makes for a great escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
So if hiking, birdwatching, or connecting with nature sounds like your thing, pack your bag, grab your camera, and head down to Hampstead Wetlands Park.
