“A girl should be two things: classy and fabulous.” – Coco Chanel
I’ve had my share of bad experiences with shoes. I have horror stories about each type of shoe I’ve owned: heels, flats, wedges or sneakers. The worst was when my shoes cut me so badly that a huge blister formed, making it impossible for me to wear covered shoes for days.
I’ve tried a variety of shoe brands, having had hits and misses along the way. Some brands have pretty shoes that fit my fashion sense to a T, yet are too uncomfortable to wear the whole day. One brand that I’ve never tried was ECCO, despite its presence in many shopping malls in Singapore. ECCO promises fashionable shoes without the discomfort, a win-win for all.

An increasing number of people are prioritising comfort when shopping for shoes – shoes are, after all, what brings us places. We decided to put ECCO’s claims to the test. Five of us here at The Smart Local donned 5 different pairs of ECCO shoes to go about our daily lives. We give the lowdown on our ECCO shoe experiences.
”I never knew the importance of having comfortable shoes till meetings took me from Balestier to Pasir Ris and back. This pair of ECCO Touch Pumps is incredibly snug. Even though it has heels, the inner padding provides support for my body weight during long meetings.” – Beatrice
“When attending media events, I like to wear shoes which give me height. However, most of these shoes are uncomfortable and unsuitable for me when I’m commuting from place to place. I like that this pair is comfortable and versatile enough for me to wear it frequently.” – Averlynn
“There’s no better conclusion to a work week than an evening spent eating and shopping with my friends, because pigging out and buying new clothes IS work-life balance. This is a strenuous activity with loads of walking involved, so I’m usually in flats or lace-ups – comfy and easy to style. This pair is airy and great for long hours of walking, and its chunky design adds a touch of edginess to any outfit.” – Joyce
“Sometimes i just get so restless doing nothing at home and need to get out of the house. All that matters is the journey, the destination’s unimportant. This powder blue flats are really easy to slip on for my walks and I feel the young vibrant color will appeal to many. The simple design is easy to match with any outfit I happen to have on that day.” – Cheryl
“My house is a distance away from the train station, so I can either take a bus or walk, and I usually walk cause I take it as a morning exercise! When I reach Novena station, I have to walk 10 minutes to the office.
For that reason, I like both flats and sneakers. Flats because they’re really easy to put on and take off, while sneakers are just really comfy! This dusty pink colored pair is right up my alley because it’s both easy to put on and take off.” – Mandy
All shoe companies claim to marry style and comfort. And while style can be seen through a picture, the comfort level of shoes is something that can only be tried. The 5 of us here at TSL have tried the newest range of ECCO shoes and we have to admit that the claims ECCO makes are not without foundation.
They are among the most comfortable shoes we have tried, and we were surprised that nobody got blisters although we were wearing the shoes for the first time. If comfort is a major factor in your choice of shoes, you won’t regret giving ECCO a try.
