A trip to Japan for ice cream during your lunch break might sound impossible, but not with a little help from DBS and the magic of VR. At the DBS Multi-Currency Account (MCA) Roadshow last November, we got to experience a truly hassle-free jaunt around the world with an incredibly immersive VR app.
We began our “journey” at the roadshow at Orchard Cineleisure. Here we strapped ourselves into an unassuming little chair on a raised platform and slapped on our VR headset.
Just as soon as we did, we were whisked on a globetrotting adventure all over the world – from surfing dunes in the desert, to a helicopter ride by the coast and skydiving over lush greenery. To add to the effect, the chair shook us about to simulate movement and add to the realism of the experience.
We were so taken by the whole experience that we were oblivious to what was going on around us. The stealthy ninjas from the DBS events team had hidden the ice cream shop from the DBS commercial in an unassuming black box in front of us and were slowly wheeling it around us.
Back in VR world, we found ourselves running short on cash. No problem though, we paid a quick visit to the nearest ATM, accessed our handy-dandy MCA account and withdrew enough cash to last the rest of our “trip” – no transaction fees or hefty exchange rates too.
By now, our trip was winding down and we decided to take refuge from the busy streets of Japan by heading into the pastel-coloured ice cream shop from the DBS commercial to end our trip with a little bit of ice cream.
When the man on our screens handed us the ice cream, we figured it was the end of the VR experience, so we took off our headset and here’s the first thing we saw:
Tada!
Needless to say, we were thoroughly impressed and happy to end the trip on a literal sweet note. More importantly, we also got a taste of just how convenient it is to pay and withdraw cash overseas with the DBS Multi-Currency Account.
