Singapore 2015 Comedy Fringe – Learn to Laugh at A Different Culture Every Night Till 13th June 2015!

About Comedy Fringe 2015

Singapore 2015 Comedy Fringe is a five-day-long stand-up comedy event, bringing together the best acts from within our shores and abroad. Featuring headliners such as Butch Bradley (USA), Gavin Webster (UK), Jonathan Atherton (AUS), and our very own Kumar, expect to laugh your socks off with these hilarious comics from all over the world.

Each night features a different set of international comedians that draw from their experiences, local or otherwise. Some take the opportunity to poke fun at those unlucky enough to be seated in the first rows. Tuesday’s set featured the Sons of Singapore, four local-based comics, and Wednesday’s set introduces the Malaysia Mirth Mafia, armed with a salvo of punchlines guaranteed to leave you squealing with delight.

What should you expect at Singapore 2015 Comedy Fringe?

I headed down to DBS Arts Centre on Tuesday night to catch the Americanada show on 10 June, showcasing comics from Canada and the United States. Our emcee for the night, Jonathan Atherton, warmed up the stage with a hilarious tirade on Singaporean taxi drivers which left me gasping for air.

The first performer, Garrett Jamieson, shared his experiences on looking like a homeless man and the various up and downs attached to it while Pat Burtscher, the second act, gave a compelling argument on the perks of suicide.

Despite the hilarity that the first two comics offered, nothing prepared us for our third act of the night, Dana Alexander, who brought the house down with stories about dating Chinese men, and various spot-on accents that had the crowd in stitches. Rounding off the show was Butch Bradley, with a hilarious set on Singaporeans and their love of flip-flops.

While bits of the acts went over the heads of some audience members, the performers showed great improv skills to switch up their acts based on the audience’s reactions and the Singaporean culture. If Western humor isn’t your cup of tea, Asian comics will also be gracing the stage at the DBS Arts Centre on other nights, ensuring that there’s something for everyone to laugh at.

Word to the wise – Stay away from the first two rows if you’re a sensitive person. These comics will take the chance to roast you at any chance possible! Regardless of race, age or gender, these comics pull no punches, so stay far away if you’re not ready to be ridiculed.

How do I catch it?
