If you grew up hanging out at Kampong Chai Chee CC, you’ll know that it was shut for a facelift. Last weekend, it was relaunched as City Sprouts @ Bedok, an intergenerational, community and cultural hub designed to keep up with the evolving needs of East Coast residents. Here’s what you can expect at the brand-new space:
You may be familiar with art jamming studio Wildflower Studio, where you can paint accompanied by a whole host of feline pals. Their latest venture is the Commewnity Cat Garden at City Sprouts @ Bedok – pun intended – a cat rescue and rehabilitation centre.
Besides looking after rescue cats, Wildflower Studio also runs feline-assisted programmes, AKA animal therapy, which has been proven to support patients’ mental and physical well-being. Find out more on the Wildflower Studio website.
Then, there’s VIVITA Singapore, who are behind the youth-led Community Makers’ Lab that also calls City Sprouts @ Bedok home. The non-profit organisation will host workshops and training here, expanding their work to empower youths with essential STEAM and maker skills.
In non-abbreviated terms, that’s Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics – a creative, interdisciplinary approach that focuses on problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, creativity, and collaboration through real-world examples.

City Sprouts @ Bedok will also feature a dedicated youth mentorship and counselling room, offering long-term programmes and support for young people in the community. Some of these include structured volunteering opportunities at the Commewnity Cat Garden, and training at the Community Makers’ Lab.
Plus, there’s free Futsal court access every Wednesday and Friday between 3-5pm.
Besides co-working spaces, there’s a Multi-Purpose Hall and Studios for sports, an Artists-in-Residence Programme, and Community Kitchen, where City Sprouts @ Bedok will be conducting cultural cooking classes in time to come.
Also in the works are gardening plots, slated to launch next year.
This new community hub is great news for Easties; while it’s not confirmed at this moment, Play Pickle was supposed to be one of the tenants for this new hub. With its big MPH, one can only cross one’s fingers and hope they’ll open them up for pickleball sessions soon.
