A Tropical Paradise Within A Tropical Paradise

What if I told you that there was a place you could go, somewhere not so far from home but feels approximately 17,455 km away? A place where enthusiastic Latin bands transport you to the beaches of Cuba and the smell of barbecued meat perfumes the air.

Nestled in the undergrowth of Sentosa’s greenery, Bob’s Bar provides an alfresco dining experience with views of the lush greenery and the sea in the distance. Besides the barstools and couches, the restaurant also provides beds with side tables so you can kick back and relax.

Havana Nights happens every Friday at Bob’s Bar, and is a new event featuring live Latin music, traditional barbecued and grilled meats from South America and the Caribbean. A selection of Cuban cigars is also available should you choose to fully commit to the experience.

Food & Drink

Havana Platter for Two ($50)

b2ap3_thumbnail_AT6A9719-Copy.JPGThe first thing that struck me was what great value this was. The food in general was really good. The prawns were crunchy and the salsa that topped it complemented the sweetness of the prawns well.

The chicken had a pleasant smoky tang to it and it was moist and tender as well. The ribs were smeared in a jerk sauce that gave it a spicy and savoury kick. My only complaint  is that it was a little too fatty for my taste and could have done with a bit of trimming.

My favourite component was the pork jowl. It was sweet and pleasantly fatty and had a great texture that wasn’t overly chewy with each bite excreting more and more flavour onto my taste buds.

The Platter is available at $50, but the items on the platter are available individually too. I’d recommend getting the platter instead of the items ala carte – it’s more value for money.

Bob’s Fresh-Pressed Mojito ($26)

b2ap3_thumbnail_AT6A9711-Copy.JPGThis classic Cuban cocktail is a mixture of rum, lime juice, mint and sugar. It’s incredibly refreshing and particularly suited for the climate that we have. How is it fresh pressed? This version of the Mojito also includes sugar cane juice which is extracted at the bar for more flavour and to give it a fresh kick.

Sentosa Sling ($29)

b2ap3_thumbnail_AT6A9727-Copy.JPGThe Sentosa sling imitates the Singapore Sling’s fruit liqueur flavours with freshly squeezed juice instead. It’s a delicious drink and because juices are used instead of liqueurs, lightweights may prefer this cocktail.

An Evening Like No Other

b2ap3_thumbnail_AT6A9697-Copy.JPGI had an enjoyable time at Havana Nights. The music, ambience, food and drinks really delivered an immersive experience. I felt like I was in the middle of the Caribbean Sea and it certainly helped that the food was delicious and the service was incredibly warm and friendly. If you’re craving for something new to do on a Friday night, here’s your answer.
