Located a short distance from Da Nang’s airport, Trinh Ca Phe is a destination most tourists would miss out on as they’re busy exploring beaches, mountains, and the many other attractions the central city has to offer.
A shame that is, too, as the place is a true gem frequented by many local café-goers. Here’s why.
As you walk up the wide but otherwise unassuming alley that leads to Trinh Ca Phe, you’ll realize its sheer size.
Past a wooden gate with a hanging sign is a spacious stone-clad yard covered in the shades of wide-branching trees. At the center is a long fish pond surrounded by penjing structures and lush vegetation.
Lean back on a low wooden stool in the yard to inhale the fresh, refreshing scent of soil, leaves, and flowers.
Or if you want more shelter against sun or rain, grab a seat in one of the many buildings around – designed to resemble old Vietnamese houses with tiled roofs, raw brick walls, and worn-looking wooden furniture.

After you’ve settled in your seat, the staff will bring you the menu, which has a wide variety of options. You can never go wrong with a good ol’ coffee with milk (VND22,000, ~USD0.94), which fits the old-school rustic theme.

Or if you’re feeling adventurous, try the signature avocado coffee (VND38,000, ~USD1.63), which adds a new twist to Vietnam’s famous drink. In fact, avocado seems to be a specialty here, with many other drink variations featuring the fruit, from avocado smoothie (VND35,000, ~USD1.50), to avocado with coconut ice cream (VND38,000, ~USD1.63).

Outside of drinks, Trinh Ca Phe also has no shortage of cakes to munch on: croissants with salted egg filling (VND35,000, ~USD1.50), and matcha tiramisu (VND32,000, ~USD1.37), to name a few.
Da Nang has no shortage of exciting places to visit, including many cafes and drink stalls well-known to tourists – and they certainly have the quality to back up their fame as well. But if you have some time to spare, Trinh Ca Phe can deliver a more localized experience.
Address: 4 Alley 34, Nguyen Huu Tho Street, Hai Chau District, Da Nang
Opening hours: 6.30AM-10.30PM, Daily
