Whether you’ve watched the actual movie or not, you’ve probably seen at least a few images of Godzilla vs. Kong. Don’t know about you, but those scenes make us wonder what the scale of the battle would be like in the real world.
A couple of fascinating clouds sighted in Vietnam last weekend offered an idea. Hanging over the horizon, they looked as if the two fabled behemoths had stepped out of the silver screen and were battling on the open sea.

Yesterday, a Facebook user took to Check in Vietnam – a forum of travel enthusiasts – to share pictures of some fascinating clouds spotted in the southern Vietnamese city of Vũng Tàu. The photos were credited toward a man named Christopher Wong.
The original poster, a Singaporean man living in Vũng Tàu, reportedly snapped shots of the rare occurrence from his home balcony on 3rd June 2021.

They show two large columns of clouds rising from the horizon, hanging above the ocean. With a little bit of imagination, we can easily see that the cloud on the left bore the vague likeness of a giant ape – or Kong, while the one next to it resembled Godzilla.
The two “beasts” faced each other, as if about to fight – except that their battle here ended differently than in the movie.

It would seem that Mr. Wong spent several minutes observing the phenomenon. Across the series of pictures he shared, we can see that the sky became progressively darker as the clouds started to change shapes.

At first, it looked like Godzilla was leaning in to deliver a blow on Kong. But as the clouds started to merge further, they began to form another, rather unexpected shape – that of a dachshund, the dog breed commonly referred to as “sausage dogs”.

After observing the phenomenon, Mr. Wong arranged the pictures into a mini-comic depicting the clouds’ transformation in good humor.
Frankly, we found the stark contrast between the quirky dachshund image and the intense giant monster battle that preceded it quite amusing indeed.
While not exactly a masterpiece with a meaningful plot that leaves you with much to ponder, the movie Godzilla vs Kong was a visual treat. And while not quite as lively as their silver screen counterparts, the clouds in Vũng Tàu also made for a sight for sore eyes. After all, it’s hard for two giant monsters duking it out to not look spectacular.
Mr. Wong’s pictures will join the Hall of Fame of fascinating clouds that have graced Vietnam’s skies, next to a dragon-shaped cloud sighted in Hanoi, or a phoenix-shaped cloud soaring over Saigon.
