We know we’ve said this a lot lately, but we just can’t help it: COVID-19 numbers in Vietnam have been outstanding. Last Thursday, the country enjoyed a full 24 hours without a new COVID-19 case, and since then, only 11 new cases have been discovered with daily jumps mostly limited to 2 to 4.
The good news doesn’t end there either. Since our last update, 18 more patients have recovered and been discharged from the hospital. As of 8AM, 13th April 2020, Vietnam has recorded 144 total recoveries and only 118 active cases.

11 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Vietnam since Thursday, meaning the total patient tally in the country is now 262. 3 of these 11 are Vietnamese nationals returning from abroad, while the rest are residents of the Hạ Lôi Hamlet in Hanoi, which has become a new COVID-19 cluster after a recent case went unchecked there for several weeks. The entire hamlet is currently under a lockdown order that will last until 5th May.
Case 252 is a 6-year-old boy from District 5, Hồ Chí Minh City. He lived in Cambodia in a family of 5, 2 of whom had been confirmed positive for COVID-19 and are currently being treated in Cambodia. On 8th April, he and the remaining 2 members of his family returned to Vietnam via the Mộc Bài Border Gate in Tây Ninh Province. All three were then quarantined on arrival.
Case 253 is the 41-year-old sister-in-law of Case 243, the first case discovered in the Hạ Lôi Hamlet.
Case 254 is a 51-year-old man who is a neighbor of Case 243.
Case 255 is a 29-year-old man from Hà Giang Province. He returned from Russia on 27th March.
Case 256 is a 52-year-old man from Hưng Yên Province. He returned from Russia on 27th March.
Case 257 is a 15-year-old girl living in Hạ Lôi Hamlet, Hanoi. Her father is friends with Case 243.
Case 258 is a 47-year-old woman from Hạ Lôi Hamlet, Hanoi, mother of Case 257.
Case 259 is a 41-year-old woman who is the wife of Case 254.
Case 260 is a 35-year-old woman living in Hạ Lôi Hamlet. She is a horticulturist and thus had contact with several people in the local area while delivering her flowers.
Case 261 is a 60-year-old woman living in Hạ Lôi Hamlet. She owns a grocery shop in a local market.
Case 262 is a 26-year-old man living in Hạ Lôi Hamlet. He had been in close contact with Case 254, his uncle, on 27th March, and started showing symptoms on 31st March.

On 10th and 11th April, 18 patients in Vietnam were confirmed free of the virus. Combined with the previous 126 recoveries, Vietnam now has 144 patients who have recovered from COVID-19.
Among these 18, 9 were discharged from the National Hospital of Tropical Diseases in Hanoi. They are 3 foreigners, 4 staff of the Bạch Mai Hospital, and 2 Vietnamese returning from overseas.
Another 5 patients out of the 18 had been receiving treatments at 3 different hospitals in Hồ Chí Minh City. They include a 31-year-old woman from the UK and 4 Vietnamese patients who had previously been to other countries.
The remaining 4 were patients in 3 different quarantine facilities in the northern province of Bắc Ninh, the central city of Đà Nẵng, and the southern province of Bình Thuận.
If the COVID-19 situation in Vietnam continues to improve like it has in the past few weeks, we have reasons to hope that the country will be free of the virus in the near future.
Of course, that can only happen if we all do our part to protect the community by staying at home and avoiding public gatherings.
