Thailand’s health ministry has just reported 60 new cases of COVID-19 today, officially surpassing the 35-case surge earlier this week. The total number of cases is now 272.

It was announced that the patients were most likely in close contact with previously infected patients, while others are returnees back in Thailand from overseas.

Morning News TV3 shared the current stats, stating that 43 of the newly infected patients were either in close contact or in the same location as the following prior cases:

  • 12 people infected from boxing stadiums
  • 14 from entertainment venues including a DJ, cleaning staff, and manager
  • 12 cases who previously either took care of or were in close contact with other COVID-19 patients
  • 5 from Pattani and Yala who attended a religious ceremony in Malaysia

The remaining 17 people are as follows:

  • 9 returned from Taiwan, India, Italy, Malaysia, Cambodia, Japan, German, and Iran
  • 3 were working or staying with foreigners, including a teacher
  • 1 was a gym trainer working in a crowded location. It is unconfirmed if this is the same case reported at BASE Amarin.
  • 4 are pending further investigations, though one patient was confirmed to be a journalist

Stay tuned for updates.
