Carrefour
Additional Details:
Carrefour is a global retailer. We currently operate in five main store formats: hypermarkets, supermarkets, hard discount, convenience & online. The Carrefour group currently has over 15,000 stores, either company-operated or franchises with presence in over 20 countries. In 1963, Carrefour invented the concept of “Hypermarket” & gave the world a new level of convenience. In Singapore too, Carrefour was the first to introduce the hypermarket store format in the year 1995. We now have two stores in the city area, one at Suntec city & the other at Plaza Singapura; we also have an online store which delivers throughout Singapore. We work very hard to bring great products to you at affordable prices & in a convenient way. We sincerely hope that you enjoy shopping with us.

I was trying to exchange a certain product for someone and it started off okay at first, but then I got a bit lost, so I approached the first person whom I thought was a staff. He wasn't, just a packer of some sort, and told me off. Shaken, I continued my search for a staff to help me. I did find one, who again told me off in a rather rude tone to ask another staff because she's busy. Only at the third try did I find a somewhat agreeable staff to help me with the exchange. Seriously, Carrefour? Definitely one of the worst experiences with customer service in my life.
That was the last time I shopped at Carrefour. Sure, they've got a huge variety of items but if that's the kind of service I'll get, then no thanks.

With two gigantic outlets in town, carrefour has to be known by everyone, the rich or the poor, the old or the young. I come to carrefour quite often on weekends, and I feel that this beats Giant anyday. With such a huge array of items on sale, the retail power of carrefour has to be tremendous. In particular, I really like the breads that they sell, as they are baked on the spot.

My experience with Carrefour is generally a great one. What I love about them is the sales of cheap outdoor items, which I once planned on buying but abandoned the thought because I didn't really need it. They also sold bicycles at a very reasonable price, which again I did not buy because I just bought myself a new bicycle. Walking inside the supermarket, I also found some unique items, some that weren't sold in the other supermarkets.
The sad thing is, however, that Carrefour would be ceasing its operations by the end of 2012, and they're having a clearance sale now. If you happen to pass by, buy as many groceries/necessities as you need, not as you want (many people need these things too!)!

I remember being in a social situation whereby everyone is pronouncing it differently. Honestly, till now, I am still unsure on how it is being pronounced. But really, who cares?
Carrefour is a great store where you can get most of you needs. They stock goods such as fresh to packed food products, to toys, books as well as DVDs! I usually don’t go there to shop for groceries as it is a little too inconvenient and out of the way from where I live, but I do drop by the Suntec City outlet pretty often.
Carrefour is usually well known for their crazy sales. Recently, I just purchased a set of DC collector’s action figures there for less than 50% of their original price! The figures are being sold in the departmental stores for about $30+ each, but I bought mine for $7.50! It was a real steal. I was very happy with my purchase.
Also, they have a very cool scanner system whereby you can scan the barcode of your item and the machine will display the price of the item. I feel that it is a very useful system and would save costs in the long run, for price tags and such.
The place is huge and not cramped, so you would feel comfortable shopping and browsing around, unlike typical supermarkets. There is ample space in between the aisles and there is a travelator where you can get your food (chips/snacks) as you move along. I really feel this grab and go concept saves time and trouble looking for specific items.
On top of that, Carrefour has a bakery area, which is uncommon in other similar stores so you could just take a whiff of the aroma coming from fresh baked goodies!
In addition, there is Good news for book lovers. There are a couple of levels where you could source for book deals. There is a variety of genres there, from crime to love stories. The authors include Chef Wan ( a celebrated Malaysian Chef), Grodard(an awesome thriller writer) and Danielle Steele specialising in romance novels. All for below $20! In this way, you could skip that long trip to the book store and just get everything you need in one place! How convenient is that?
The space is really organized and clean, with friendly staff that would assist you anytime. They even have dedicated aisles for international brands- for many items including maple syrup. For a quick comparison, a fair amount of items are cheaper than cold storage, so do visit Carrefour and stock up all that you need!

Mention about Carrefour, few things will come to my mind – Camping tents, cheap classic dvds and nice munchies.
One can always head down to Carrefour to look for cheap but durable camping products. If you are not a hardcore mountain hiker, the tents and equipment are really good quality stuffs for outdoor activities. I often have this temptation to place a tent in my room. And, it’s cheap.
Cheap also means that one can afford to carry out many outdoor activities.
For those who have garden space, you might want to grab a foldable tentage.
My friend just bought a kiddy bicycle for his daughter, costing about $69 only. There are also roller blades and sports equipment. Usually Carrefour is crowded for all these reasons, as parents bring their kids down.
Do avoid purchasing furniture, any household decorative ornaments and stationeries. They are way too expensive or not worth the quality.
If Giant or Sheng Siong are not available in your estate, probably Carrefour is a better option over Jason’s Market or Cold Storage, in terms of prices.
The bakery at the Basement (of Suntec branch) is quite awesome. There is a great variety of bread to choose from, however, do expect those “European” type of bread and pastries there.
Not the tomato pizza bread or mayo sandwich bread we often grab from our neighbourhood bakeries. Link them to wholemeal bread, baguette, raisins bread, muffins, etc. Delifrance kind of bread and pastries in exact.
Ok, demoralizing news…. the queues are long.

I have been a frequent shopper at Carrefour Plaza Singapura and with so much to see and shop, I would tend to spend longer time at Carrefour.
Other than selling the manufactured products, Carrefour also came up with the concept of providing in-store booths, such as Sushi booth, snacks and candies booth and a booth set up displaying a wide variety of meats. Not only that, in some other Carrefour ( Suntec City Carrefour), they do offer more variety such as home appliances, a whole range of children toys and even apparels
The shelving is not so great but I'm sure that
They have almost everything that the consumer needs.
One thing that might need to be improved on is the queue lane. In Plaza Singapura Carrefour, the lane is so small and its really difficult to squeeze in especially if you are shopping with a trolley. They should come up with more of single basket or 'limited amount of shopping items' lane so as to improve efficiency.
But in overall, as a customer, I'm satisfied shopping here and I would try to always avoid peak hours or weekends because the queue could be so much longer.

I like shopping at Carrefour for stuff that I cannot get at my local NTUC neighborhood store. Like other supermarkets, Carrefour not only has a wide variety of goods but also provide products from their home brand. Their home-brand products are sometimes sold a little more expensive than other brands but this is solely due to the quality of it. I tried a Carrefour brand pizza before and I have to say that the taste and quality beats the popular Sunshine brand hands down. I never bought Sunshine again. For almost the same price, I would rather get Carrefour. Another thing that I have to tell you is that Carrefour even has their own bakery and wait for this.... they sell tents, table and chair sets, sleeping bags, luggages etc. It's almost like Giant but much better in quality. Oh, they even have a CD and video store in the Suntec branch!
