NU Artists Gallery
NU Artists Gallery is a contemporary art gallery in Singapore representing and supporting a selection of promising artists from around the world, especially Asia. Started by two persons' love for paintings, Nu Artists Gallery aims to be a platform for emerging artists while making art more accessible. Centrally located at the Arab Street Quarters in Singapore, it is a place for like minded souls to find original pieces and for all who wants to enjoy and create art.
To begin with, this place is really hidden and quite difficult to find on your first try. I got muddled up. But when I entered it, I felt like I was taken to another more peaceful, and calm environment. Mostly featuring contemporary art from artists from around the world, Nu Artists Gallery is a place for like-minded art lovers.
I fully intend to go back there again to explore and view more of their art pieces.
However, the session did not start off well. We had made effort to go early to find the place hidden in the Haji Lane / Arab Street area. We found the shop closed despite having made an appointment weeks earlier. We met another pair of jammers and tried to call the shop, to no avail. Both our groups had met with unanswered calls and slow emails even when trying to make our appointments. Needless to say, we were all very annoyed, waiting in the heat outside. The staff did turn up 15 min late for our session, saying she had gone for lunch, and then began setting up for our session.
It would have been nice to start the session on time, because the remaining time spent there was quite enjoyable. The time passed quickly without further event. After we were done we could take home our palette, brushes and own painting. The painting was wrapped in a flimsy brown paper and my handle broke within 5 min of walking back to Bugis. Regardless, if given better service, art jamming can be a fun activity for a free afternoon for those who like to get in touch with their artistic side. It was also surprisingly tiring, though that’s probably the amateur in me talking.
