The Marmalade PantryHot
Founded in 1999, Marmalade Pantry has set the pace for modern bistro cuisine since opening its famed frosted-plated glass doors. Now home at the picturesque Fairways Drive, Marmalade Pantry at the Stables (formerly Mimolette) continues to draw both the curious and well-heeled palate to its sunshine outdoors. Enticing diners with its luxury comfort food, the Marmalade menu never fails with its fresh bite and warm flavours.
Other than for the fact that it's a little costly, it makes for a great afternoon tea break with your loved ones! I had their Red velvet cupcake with cream cheese toppings and coconut shavings, caramelized bread pudding with a dollop of ice-cream and a pot of flower-brewed tea (can't remember what's the name of it).
They all tasted fantastic! I was doubtful if it was even filling when the items first got served because they looked rather miserable and tiny on the plate. My company and I however, felt really full after having just these sweet snacks!
Not too sweet and filling. Worth the price! The waiters are had also impressively good service.
Management tweaked and locations toned-down to two outlets, its Crab Caesar, Beef Burger (with truffle fries), Crabmeat Linguini and Steak Sandwich still draw in the crowds. Its Sticky Date Pudding and cup cakes, namely Limonata, Cloud Nine and Hazel are probably its saving grace. On a side-note, its services remain unparalleled in their air of haughtiness amidst mild hostility.
Gone are the days when reservation up to a week in advance had to be made. A recent personal triumph was accomplished when I walked into its ION outlet on a Saturday for brunch and managed to be seated without any prior booking. This had me reminiscing on the days when a detour to its sister outlet, TOAST at Ngee Ann City had to be made; upon the bungle up of its staff.
The sandwiches were better, but not much better. They were accompanied by a pile of what I think were various vegetable chips. It was only so-so. I enjoyed TCC's sandwiches a lot more.
Don't come here unless you're too rich or want to be cheated of your money.
Anyway, I only ordered their red velvet cupcake and a steak sandwich since I wasn't very hungry. Their price range is a bit pricey and so of course I expected more.. which was a disappointment. Had to wait for quite a bit, and even then the customer service was subpar at best. There's an air of pretentiousness about them, and ugh it wouldn't hurt to smile, you know.
Food-wise, it was alright. But definitely not worth it. I've had better food, better service, all for a lower price. I doubt I'll pay them a visit anytime soon.
I ordered the carbonara and I would say that it was the best carbonara I have ever tried. The creamy sauce is just right, not too overpowering yet gives the spaghetti a very flavorful taste as well! The noodles were well cooked and the bacon bits were a crispy and not fatty at all. The portion was too huge for me, unfortunately. The desserts were to die for too. I had a red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting. The cream cheese frosting is generous but not too sweet and the cake batter was light and soft.
I heard that marmalade pantry's breakfast sets are good too! I would definitely head back there on a weekend to try out their breakfast sets.
Not going back again. The food is on the pricy side. The only saving grace of that place is the fact that there are cute ponies prancing around outside the restaurant.
I was there for dinner on a Wednesday. Luckily i didn't had to queue at all since there's a few tables available at that time. Ordered their home made dips with Pita bread which was not to my liking. Their Scrambled eggs and sausages sandwich came in a big portion but i felt it tasted ordinary for the price paid.
Decided to try their cupcakes and got the server to recommend a popular choice, she was nice and didn't lose her patience although i took a long time to decide my order
Well, i'm not a fan of cupcakes but i've got to admit the ones i had at Marmalade Pantry was awesome.
Will i return? Probably, but just for the cupcakes.
The main courses are good but the cakes are extraoordinary! I love the sea salt caramel cake and it's definitely worth the try, though everything in Marmalade Pantry is rather pricey. I spent $30+ for both times for food and dessert (to share). Try the cupcakes too if you have a sweet tooth.
We chatted there for the whole afternoon with my girlfriends and I realized that this cafe enjoys quite a steady flow of traffic. Most patrons were there for an afternoon tea after massive shopping as seen from their shopping bags!
We had 2 desserts – Old Fashioned Chocolate Fudge cake (Massive size!!!) & Baked Apple Pie. For tea, we had peony jade tea as recommended by their staff. Warning – the chocolate fudge cake is even larger than those you see at PS cafe. It is best shared among 3 people. However, I would say, their chocolate cake is not overly sweet and I do not feel stuffed after eating. Perhaps the tea helps in smoothing the cake down my throat. The tea is light and has this tinge of lychee flavour. I LOVE IT!! We actually refilled it 7 times! It’s so soothing and somehow helped to cleanse our stomach. Service wise, no complaints. We had our pot refilled so many times and they are always so courteous and so prompt in getting to our table once we raise our hands.
They then told us that they have a place for us but we would have to finish by 6. We were unhappy but since we were already there, we figured we would just take up their offer. The service was really a turn off though. The wait staff were also not particularly friendly, but by then we didn't expect much of their service anyway.
each of us ordered a main and i must say, the mains aren't too shabby. I had a scrambled eggs with sausages. The portions were generous and the scrambled eggs were good. However, it came with mushrooms that were burnt. I tried my friend's scallop/prawn linguini and i thought it was really delicious.
The group of us shared two desserts. Sea salt caramel cheesecake and i the sticky date pudding. Both desserts were rich and delicious and the portions were quite huge.
That said, the food here is quite pricey. we spent about 30 bucks each.
