Tucked away in a corner of the GSM Building along Middle Rd, Stuttgart Blackforest is a spacious and cosy little boutique cafe with running water and greens that gives it a fresh and vibrant feel. I've been wanting to try this cafe ever since a friend of mine told me about the 1-for-1 discount that was applicable to SMU students and I headed there for my belated birthday celebrations with 4 friends.

What surprised me was that their À la carte only had 4 mains consisting of 2 pasta, 1 sausage platter and a pork knuckle. We were able to enjoy 2 pork knuckles at $50 because of the promotion, but without the promotion I think that the pork knuckle will sting the wallet quite a bit. In addition to that we ordered one sausage platter as well. The pork knuckle exceed expectations; the meat was well seasoned and the exterior was roasted to crisp perfection. The skin of the knuckle crumples in your mouth like love letters and the accompanying sauce blended well with the meat. The sausage platter was really disappointing though. The portion was small and nothing to shout about really; and at $25 didn't really justify the price tag.

The cafe had a variety of imported beers as well, not the usual kind that you can find around Singapore. They had descriptions which I thought was really helpful in giving a clearer idea of how the beer would taste like. I chose a light, malt one which went really well with the pork knuckle. Someone recommended me to try their Black Forest Cake too, but after the knuckles and beer I didn't really have room for desserts. Hopefully they will expand their menu in the near future, I will certainly be back again soon.
